ok this is the thing. I had xvid installed, from NIC's version (got it from xvid.net) Tried to watch a movie, but got no sound. I have NO CLUE what I did, but I tried installing and uninstalling NIMO and xvid (some other version 2) a couple of times, then I installed xvid (nic's) and tried to uninstall it, it said it did successfully uninstall but the codec stayed, so I booted and then the sound was working.. What I could find out from gspot was that the sound will work if the audio codec that directshow (xvid) uses is the mpeg layer 3, instead of the avi splitter to render it. so now I can't make xvid use mpeg-3 instead of the avi splitter again, as this will solve my problem, most likely.. if anyone has any thoughts on how I could solve this codec mess on my computer, please enlighten me. thanks
i had a simular problem, no sound i installed a program called: GordianKnot.SystemPack.1.0 everything works fine now
