ok, to watch most xvid movies you require proper codecs to run the movie using divx player. Deflier Pak 1.2 which was recommended did not work. There was a fourcc error(whatever that means) that occured. Could someone provide me with the proper codecs to watch these compressed movies? would be appreciated. I think Microsoft sucks because they probably got these incompatible things running with svchost or something. Anyway, can anyone help?

DivX player shouldn't require anything to decode XviD since the DivX decoder can handle it.

I would suggest that you install XviD or ffdshow and try a different player, like Media Player Classic.

Should point out that XviD player is not named after the XviD MPEG-4 video codec nor developed by the same people.
