Hey guys I'm fairly new to encoding videos. I really didn't have much interest in it until I recently got my hands on a PS3. I have tons of TV shows in XVID format and I would really like to be able to play it on my PS3. The supported video formats of the PS3 are as follows: MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (PS,TS), H.264/MEPG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SP. I've tried to encode an XVID Episode of Heroes and CSI in all those formats with PS3 Video 9. While the video plays fine on my PC, when I try to play it on my PS3, it tells me it's an unsupported format. Does anyone know what it is I'm doign wrong? I was thinking I would have better luck if it was just a plain AVI file and then encode it to AVC. Does anyone know of a quick easy newbie way to do it? I appologize for such a newbie question, I work at a Hospital and it's been really busy lately so I have not had time to read through the extreme amounts of guides on this site. If someone could point me to the right direction on which guides to look at I would really appreciate it. I was just wondering if there was an easy way that I'm missing. Any help on this guys is greatly appreciated.
some times you have to take time to get good things, good things happen to people who wait, my understanding that the ps3 are backwards combatable, so just convert the files to vob and burn to dvd, should be a no brainer, what programs do you have to do your converting? vso convertxtodvvd should work just fine. good luck happy burning have a nice day
Thank you for the reply. I don't have any encoding software yet, I'm a total noob to this art of encoding. The only software I tried was PS3 Video 9, and was unsuccesful. What I don't understand is why the files plays perfectly find on my PC after I convert it to AVC, but it shows up as unsuported. What I would like to do now is try to convert a video that is encoded in XVID and encode it to something that is more compatible or just a simple AVI. From there I can try to convert it to AVC. I appologize, but I'm completely lost as to what to do. I'm trying to read through some guides and it seems that there is no one program solution, and that it's a mixture of programs. What do you think the problem is? Where should I start? I downloaded the trial software of the program you reccomended and it's encoding a short clip for me right now, I'm hoping tha it works. If you have any more suggestions I would really appreciate it.
using ps3 video 9 try setting the audio sample rate to 48000hz... i heard that worked.. at first i was getting the unsupported error but i've been able to convert a few trailers and ts samples into mp4 files that *are* compatible with the ps3... (so far 1080p @ 4mbps, but its a start).. i'm thinking of using megui and setting up these options in a profile for ps3.. i know i using SUPER and using h264 main profile 4.0 works also.. i've done that as well.. right now i'm doing some more testing and i'd like some more feedback from others on what they've been able to do.
