I have the same problem with every single Xvid file I try to convert to a VCD. I followed many many guides that proclaimed to know how to convert a Xvid file to VCD/MPEG file but either they don't or I'm too stupid to execute the steps. I convert all my movies with TMPGEnc but it doesn't want to open Xvid files. Sorry I can't help you but maybe somebody alse can help both of us. I really hope so!

Go to Options>Environmental Setting and click on the VFAPI Plugin tab, then right click "Directshow Multimedia File Reader" and raise the priority to 2. Try opening your Xvid again.

FFDSHOW is only a decoder used for playback. In order to convert to another format you'll need an encoder like TMPGEnc which can create a new file for use in the creation of either VCD, SVCD, or DVD.

Have you tried using TMPGEnc since you installed the FFDSHOW filter? If it still doesn't work go to Options>Environmental Setting>VFAPI Plugin and raise the priority of the Directshow Multimedia File Reader to 2 by right clicking it.
