I'm in the UK and all zone 2 DVDs play fine on my DVDROM, but zone 0 DVDs have a mind of their own and play if they want to play. If they do play they only run for a few minutes, then freezes. any ideas? thx
yes, its a PC DVD-ROM Drive. I have used window media player, winDVD 3.0 and Platinum and Power DVD. out of all of them, windows media player gives the best results (plays the most before crashing)
OK, you might need a firmware hack for your drive! Do a google search for it. You might be able to find some firmware hacks at http://www.dvdrhelp.com Have you managed to play the disc in anything that prooves its not damaged?
The only possibilities then are u need a firmware hack or upgrade OR somehow they manage to be 3 coasters!
Well, that was not so obvious to me...These 'region free' discs are really not commercially that common and easy to find. 1/the most common situation would be that they are copies of DVD's somebody made for you (using Shrink, etc..). How do you know they used good media? How do you know they didn't use some type of screwy equipment or software? 2/they are region-free pirated copies you bought somewhere thinking you were buying legit copies. The same reservations hold... 3/ they are so called 'Adult' material. Those are often distributed as region-free and are sold worldwide over the net. Same reservations. If you really want to find out if it is the media or your hardware, have somebody reliable on a different computer make a copy using Shrink or similar of a recent movie on good media. If that plays on your DVD player, you have your answer...
