that's because everyone there buys for status and not quality/efficiency/exceptional performance.

i guess it's part of the way i was raised, but i [bold]hate[/bold] gas-guzzlers that are anything but weekend fun cars. it's the environmentalist coming out in me...

...same as i hate the businessman/soccer mom that drives an SUV by himself/herself all the time, or the redneck drives a big ol' dually truck to work everyday when he's no in the construction business, or the moron (who actually lives near campus) that restored a '70 Nova with the 454 and gets 8 miles a gallon *at best*, probably 4 in the city, and is a pizza delivery guy for his job.

exactly; i don't think one should have much more car than one could realistically use--it's just a waste, otherwise, as petroleum products are not renewable.

i love the modern 4-cylinder car.

classic v-8s are great, as they make their power at such low rpms. that's great for acceleration, and the torque allows for few gears, but the increased weight/size/idle rpm burns up soo much more fuel. they're great on weekends, but...

...4-cylinders can make 300 or 400 horsepower as a daily driver and still get 25 miles per gallon, as they idle as low as 750 rpm (mine regularly drops to 450 when i just sit and the engine is warm) and cruise all paved roads at decent speed at low rpm while in hi-gear (i can go as low as 20 mph in 5th, but as high as 135mph at the redline), but when you wind them up to 6000+ rpm they can make some mega power...much like superbikes on the road, though not normally at 9000+ rpm.

take it easy on that gearbox until you learn the exact shifting...it can be a bit awnry sometimes, as it is a slightly-softened race tranny.

they're cool, but there's a lot more car for the money out there. in my opinion, cars in youth should be efficient, cheap, and reliable, so that you can enjoy lots more exotic cars later on with the resources freed up in youth. but that's just me :p

Come to think of i think you're right. I probably won't have enough money by then. Plus i'll have to pay for college and other priorites.

exactly; and if you have an easier time paying for college, you'll tend to do better there and thus get a better job out of college, giving you much more disposable income to spend on the cars of your dreams instead of the car of your dreams.

my recommendation: a good used subaru ^.^
