on the sony tv how many hdmi connections do you have ? i would say if it has two or more try them all . if none seem to work go into the tv settings and see if maybe the hdmi connections are diabled or something .

 

Okay. My mistake. Maybe I should have been more clear. Obviously there is firmware to run any programs, etc. When I said "just kodi", I meant above and beyond the firmware, to me that is a given. Having said that I didn't think of the "play store" as being part of the firmware. Yes, Google is great for many things. I'm more of an apple person that stumbled upon this generic android box. I'm still getting used to the process.
I'm a firm believer of leaving well enough alone. Having said that, The reason I wanted to update 14.2 to Isengard, is because it was acting glitchy and buffering in the first place. Which didn't seem to improve when I did the update. So now I was left with wondering why? I had 14.2 rc1 (release candidate) as opposed to simply 14.2. Maybe I will backtrack and try a different version of 14.

 

Hi, The sports streams on my MX box have stopped working, I was just getting a message saying no stream available. To try and fix the problem I have tried to install a newer version of sportdevil, however it won't install.I have deleted the old version and tried again, both from a downloaded zip file and typing the address into the file manager, but I still just keep getting a message saying dependencies not met. Any ideas on how to make the install work?

Hi, only had my box for couple weeks but I'm noticing some YouTube Vids are very poor quality. Some HD Vids are fine while other HD Vids are really bad. It's definatly not a big screen issue as I've watched same Vids on windows laptop wired to same TV and they're definatly hd? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.. Jim

 

Piopat, I've followed step 2 in your tutorial, and still not connecting to wifi, done it all correctly! As you said, it did keep making a repetative clicking sound then flicked of and restarted twice, this has never happened before. I usually can connect straight away to my wifi. I don't suppose you know off any other way to fix it after I've done your way ? Be greatly appreciated.

 

hi aj i can only assume you mean part 2 of my guide to fix non working wifi . well that really should have fixed the issue for you (i mean if you did it exactly as i said) atleast as far as the box is concerned . ive done it a few times and its worked every time , but then maybe your box is a different sort of box . that it said some things (android wise ) are sort of universal to all android boxes , and id say this is one of those things . but if you give me the make and model of your box i may be able to help further .

all i could suggest aj is that (just in case ) that you try the fix again just in case you missed something , trust me its easy to miss something , ive done it lots of times .

but if the wifi fix just wont work on your box you will have to connect the box direct to the router . that means you either have to connect it to the router using an ethernet cable , that may not be possible if your box is far from the router as it then involves using a very long cable . so then the best option would be home plugs or a similar device to home plugs .

very simply you get two home plugs , they look like plugs . you will need an ethernet cable for each plug .

very simply you plug a home plug into a socket next to the router , you connect one end of an ethernet cable to the home plug and the other end connects to any ethernet port on the router . what you are now doing is sending the internet signal from your router all around your home to every single wall socket in every room . so it acts as a sender .

then you plug the second home plug in to a socket near the box , and again connect one end of an ethernet cable to the home plug and the other end to the box . your box is now connected to your router and can receive the internet signal from it . you can connect any similar device such as a ps3 or nintendo to the internet this way . also as the internet is now going all over your home via the wall sockets so you can buy additional home plugs for other rooms .
if your box cant be set to wifi it should then be set to ethernet , in which case once the home plugs are connected to it it should work straight away .

 

HOW TO ADD SUBTITLES TO KODI


this tutorial will be useful for elderly people with poor hearing or anyone with hearing difficulties .

PLEASE NOTE : im using kodi 14.2 , if you are using a newer version the screen menus you see may differ slightly to that described in my tutorial . also i dont know if the subtitles file that i used is compatable with newer versions of kodi .


in order to get the subtitles you first have to install a subtitles file , this is easy enough .

ok so what you need to do is open kodi , then go to SYSTEM , next use your remote control to go down to SYSTEM and then press ok button .

next press your down button and go down to ADDONS , and press ok button . now on the left of screen you should see several options , the easiest way to do this is to select SEARCH , so go to that option and press ok button.

now the onscreen keypad should appear , all you have to do is use your remote control to type in the word subtitles , then select DONE and press ok button .

now you should see a list of subtitle options , some are purely for foreign languages and some just for english and others provide multiple languages .

for a good english subtitle file use your remote to go down the list to
SUBTITLES - OPEN SUBTITLES.ORG




now for some reason there are two of these listed , just go to the first one and then press ok button to install it . wait for it to install , it only takes a few seconds usually . once installed it will say installed to the right of the file name .

ok now the file is installed you can exit those menus and go to your favourite movie/ tv show addon in kodi and open it , and select a movie . i selected american pie as a test .


when the movie has started playing press ok button , that brings up options along the bottom of the screen . use your remote to go to the subtitle option.



then press the up button to go up to DOWNLOAD , the movie will pause automatically.




now on the right of screen the file you installed will likely be listed . and in the middle of the screen is a large enough box and it will likely say SEARCHING SUBTITLES (or similar ) , the search should just take seconds . subtitle options should the appear .




now i chose american pie , there are multiple sequels to this movie so as i was playing the first movie in the series i was careful to ensure i selected american pie (not american pie 2 or 3 , if you understand me ) .

my point in selecting a movie with sequels etc was just so that you would know that if you chose a movie with sequals that you would know to select the correct movie subtitles . also some movies have remakes of the same name , so for example you could see psycho 1960 and psycho 2005 , naturally if you want to watch psycho 1960 you would select psycho 1960 not psycho 2005 .

if you chose a movie that has no sequels and no remakes this shouldnt a problem , but atlleast if you do you will now know to select the correct option .

ok so there should be an english subtitle option for the movie /tv show you want to watch , use your remote control to go to it and then select it by pressing ok button . it will say DOWNLOADING for a couple of seconds and then the movie will resume playing with subtitles on screen .








the above pictures show subtitles in swedish and english , the point of the pictures is purely so you can see subtitles that should be onscreen .


so thats how you get subtitles on movies / tv shows . if you want to turn off the subtitles , just press ok while the movie is playing , go to the SUBTITLE option . use your up button to go to where it says ENABLED and press ok button , subtitles are now off .

so thats how you get subtitles , enable and disable them , i have this on my box so i know it works 100% .

now one last thing you can do here , you can use the subtitles as is but its just to set this subtitle file as your default subtitle service .

go to SYSTEM , then go down to and select SETTINGS , now go down to VIDEO and press ok button . now use your down button and go down to SUBTITLES . subtitle options will appear on the right side of your screen , you need to go over there , so press the right button on your remote .

now press the down button untill you see

DEFAULT MOVIE SERVICE

go to that and select it by pressing ok button .





now open-subtitles.org should be there listed , just press ok button to select it (obviously if you install other subtitle files these will also be listed ) . you will then return to the last menu you were on . you can do the same for
DEFAULT TV SERVICE if you wish , when thats done you can exit from those menus and go and watch your favourite movies with subtitles . dont worry you can un do anything we do here if you want .

i did try this on a small selection of tv channels , it didnt work for me on tv channels . subtitles on iptv channels work differently to regular tv / satellite channels . a different subtitle file may be available that will work just for tv channels . all you have to do then is install it as above , and set it to DEFAULT TV SERVICE as above .

 

I am having problems with my mbox mx not loading properly and when it does it doesn't always connect to the internet and it doesn't want to let me open some apps like kodi. Should I try installing new firmware and if so where would I get it? Is it possible to copy my other box that is the exact same type?

 

it is possible to change the firmware in your box . you will need an sd card , and you will of course need to download the correct firmware to the sd card .

to determine the correct firmware for your model box we need the exact model details .

once you have all of the above you insert the sd card into the powered off box . then you insert a toothpick or similar into the av connection at the rear , there is a hidden reset switch in there , while you press the switch with the tooth pick use your other hand to power the box up . all being well a menu should appear on screen with options , one of which will be to upgrade firmware .

however before you go down that route check a few things . see if you can open settingsmbox , go to OTHER and then go to storage and see how much free space your box has left . if its full or near full naturally the box will have problems operating .

 

When i go to storage is just stays on calculating everything it never gives me whats on there for storage or what everything is using. Here are the box details

 

I was finally able to reset it by using the button in the a/v plug I read about seems, to be loading fine now just have to reinstall everything, tks for your time piopat I will let you know if it doesn't work out

 

leo it would seem from what you said that your box memory was full , if the memory is full or near full it will struggle to work or not work at all . so you need to watch your memory usage in future .

re install kodi and install your favourite addons , and when kodi is how you like it make a back up copy of it , i explained how in the early posts in this thread .

that way if your memory is getting full you can clear kodi and then reinstall it from your back up , that keeps the memory usage low . also install clean master app from the google app store , that cleans up un wanted un needed junk files in your box and can clear lots of space .

also regularly clear the cache (not the data cache ) of any app or addon you use as if you dont that will take up memory capacity .
