for those that may not know the maker of genesis addon has decided he isnt going to support the addon any longer . that doesnt mean its not working , it is but as things stop working they wont be fixed . so best to have alternatives .

if i may and if tongs doesnt mind id like to post my recommendations from his excellent list above .

but all of the above addons will more that make up for genesis . that said a new addon has been promised that may even out do genesis , lets wait and see .

 

Piopat, do you think these mx mboxs are still good boxes? looking to a get a couple more for myself and friends and see lots listed on ebay

leo t have had a few mx boxes and must say work very , the mxq and mx111 , if your going with mx box I'd suggest the mx111 because it has 2gb ram compared to most boxes ha ve only 1 gb and I have found a difference in page speed with extra ram , also come preloaded with apps and kodi

Guys have installed the new blackbox build on pc and it's well worth checking out , some new movie repos and and sports also has one I never come across before called ukbox sets and it brill , also has the old favorites genesis,icefilms , pheonix sportsdevil etc have not tried on andriod boxes yet , but we'll worth a visit

i'm trying to reset another mx box for a friend and when I do a hard reset from the a/v connection and it loads up it just shows the android guy laying on the ground and says no command, and won't let me do anything. any ideas?

 

Leo t if you go to piopat newbies tut guide on page 5 at the bottom of the page give a idea how to reboot in to recovery mode, if not check this video out show how reset in to recovery mode and gives you options on left of screen using av toothpick methods to reset , Lol

i've done the reboot but i'm getting a bit of a different screen when I reboot, it says no command under the android bot and it doesn't let me move up or down in order to pick what I want to do

 

well ive got two and some mates have them and they work well , cant really fault them except to say mine only have 8gb memory be nice to have more . that said i know a guy would bought a few different smaller cheapo android boxes and he had a lot of trouble with them , i could have got him a few mx 2 boxes and set them up for him (and he knows i know my way around them) but for some reason another guy offered him those cheapo boxes and he bought them , he is wishing he hadnt now .

mx2 boxes would not be the latest models out now and they are only dual core , there are mx3 m8 etc , and of course quad core . so i guess its up to the individual , but personally i think the mx2 is a great little box .

When it shows "no command", press and hold the VOL UP button for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP button press and release the POWER button . It will display additional menu options.

the additional options should help you properly reset the box . let us know how you got on with this leo .

 

Lol t have not come across this one before with no command , here a video below might help you out or you might need to do a reset via sd card piopat might be able to chip in on this one with a bit more with tech info lol

lol some times strange things can happen with these boxes especially as there are so many different types lol .but its good to know there are ways around / fixes etc . i have worked on a few m8 boxes , nice boxes and quads with more memory . but on all of those i worked on a pop up message keeps popping up about allowing SUPER USER , its very annoying i have to say . but i know what it is and i disabled the setting , so the problem goes away . lol but if someone didnt know what it was or why it was happening or how to get rid it would be quite frustrating for them . as i say its nice to know how to fix these things , luckily there are a lot of smart people out there who tell us how to fix these things , i wish i knew half as much as them lol . talk soon mate

 

I tried this but it didn't bring up any other kind of menu options. I was able to turn off the box with the remote power button after I tried so the remote does work it just wont let me scroll through the menu items

 

the regular remote control wont work for this if the box is stuck and cant boot up properly . the box must fully boot up before the remote control can work . you will need a wifi remote control with dongle , or you can probably use a regular computer usb mouse .

 

Piopat trust me you are well up in their league , what do you think if leot cannot access air mouse , would a full recovery be any good on the link above half way down the page gives two files to put on sd card and tut to to go to full recovery, do you think that would be an option , I did get a mx box for a mate of mine last year when I set it up it was stuck on red light , I tried all the steps av port etc , in the end contacted supplier who sent me files to try the sd route still would do nothing ended up returning the box

ive read a few posts on sites where people could just not get a box to reset or be able to change the firmware . and like you they returned the box . now whether that was because they did something wrong or maybe because their remote didnt work etc i dont know . the problem is that they only give you one way too change the firmware , if that wont work you are in trouble . as you may know on say a vu + solo sat box you can flash via usb stick , or via web browser or the old fashioned way with null modem cable , but as i say with android you just have the one way . if you could do it say via web browser via your laptop it would save a lot of trouble for sure .

but certainly if the box has a serious problem and you can change the firmware fully via new firmware on an sd card then that really may be the best and only option . trouble is as i said if the box cant boot fully the regular remote wont work . lets say as an example the box has 3 parts to its boot process , the part of the firmware that allows your remote to communicate with the box wont kick into gear untill after part 3 has completed , part 3 would be say the box boots fully and works ok . if the box sticks on say MBOX or you just see an android on screen well that means the box cant get past one of those parts , so the remote wont work properly or at all . thats why a mini wifi remote/ keypad or atleast a usb computer mouse is a must as they can work even when the box isnt booting properly . that should allow you to select reset or firmware upgrade .

but if changing the firmware i must stress that you need to ensure that you first have the correct firmware before you do anything to the box . otherwise you could end with with bricked box .

i never saw one personally stuck on a red light , that is a worry on any box even on a satellite box , a red light can indicate a hardware problem . on clone vu sat boxes a chip can become corrupt or damaged when reflashing with an incorrect image . the chip the has to be changed , so if its a hardware issue as opposed to firmware its a more serious problem . that said i dont know for sure that an android stuck on a red light is a hardware issue as opposed to firmware . i would say that in such a case if the box is still under warranty return it , if its out of warranty its more than a year old and likely paid its way , so whats to be lost by changing the firmware ? , it might just work and fix it .
