I stand corrected, thanks Ireland for calling me on that. Rssll, I'm running out of ideas here. If it's not the media and it's not the software, that leaves me to suspect the drive. Is there any way you can try another drive on your computer? Also, gus738 is right, I love TY's and we need to know if the Sony's you got are made in Japan or Taiwan. If you can't find it, then what spin are they (8x, 16X)? If anyone has any ideas, please say so.

The sony disc I have are DVD+r, made in Taiwan. As for the Drives (hard) My computer says it has 2, one in fat32 mode and another in ntsf mode. The one running in ntsf is my recovery drive I believe. Is it possible to create these backup files to my hard drive, and then use my program like Interwin DVD creator or Sonic Record now to put them on a dvd. This Backup thing is getting very frustrating. Is there a step by step manual on the inernet somewhere?

I don't think I was clear, I meant I suspect the DVD Drive, not the HDD's (although it could be anything at this point). Is it possible for you to borrow your friend's DVD Drive and try it on your computer? If that's not possible, ask him to try burning with one of your empty discs (using Clone). If we can eliminate something than it gives us a better idea of what's wrong. As far as your HDD's being FAT or NTFS, I don't believe it matters (see Ireland's post), so you don't need to worry about that. You don't need a new HDD (as long as they're working with everything else), and the size is fine. I'm only using an 80G with about half unused and I back-up all day long. Maybe a veteren has a different idea, a little help guys?

Ok if i convert from fat32 to ntfs will that reformat my drive and make me lose all my saved data and applications. My friend has tried the blank dvdx that i have been unsuccesful with and he ahs had no problem making a backup. I checked his dvd writer drive and it is also a lite on sohw 832 running vsom firmware. So at this point I fon't think it is the media i'm using. butI'm willing to try and convert from Fat32 to ntfs if i wont lose everything. heck i guess I'm willing to even lose everything, just want to make sure I have to backup all my important stuff first. Thanks for everybodys help.

My friend does,t want to remove his internal drive in fear of screwing up his computer. i'm willing to buy a new external one. Any suggestions for one....one that doesn't cost more than $100.00 and more like $50.00?

but go to your local store , i belive i saw it a bit cheaper on the local store , oh and dont forget to get the warranty for 2 years for 10 or 25 bucks!! and just bring it to the store before the time dies and you can do the same over n over , you just loose warranty price every 2 years.

PROMO DIES EVERY 2 WEEKS COUNT , SO MAYBE IT ENDS THIS SAT

Sorry it's been a while since i posted last. Thankyou everybody fot the support and advice. My friend has tried my blank dvd's and has no problem at all making backups. So i'm sure i just need a new one, weird though, i've never used it but to make about 20 cd's and its shot already? Infact i can still make music cd's with it. I suppose i should just break down and get the external dvd writer.

hi, i have a similar question. i have the same bad media error message when using any and clone dvd. the only difference is it's only when i try to burn large movies on dl verbatim discs. dvd 5 discs have no issues at all just the dl discs. could it be settings or anything like that. this has just started recentely the last 6 or 7 discs. thanks in advance, mike
