The Grudge, The Village, Kill Bill #2---all sucked badly. I cannot wait for a "Jeepers Creepers #3"...now THERE was a character you would move to the other side of the street if you saw him.
Also Mimic #3 (? I think) had some swell bugs walking about in London Fog raincoats. I am a Netflix junkie (no more varicose veins in legs after standing 2-hours searching in Video Store for a movie. I have seen 2 good ones lately...."Suspect Zero"--a good mystery/serial killer romp...and..."Rory O'Shea Was Here"--which is a well done movie about two guys who are paraplegic and get out and do some wild things. Kind of a chick flick emotionally...but a guy can see the struggles better I think. "War of the Worlds" looks fantastic, even though 'Maverick' is on there with that scientological attitude, as so often is seen at Amway or Mary Kay extravaganzas. A test for all--which Sci-Fi/Horror movie has this statement in it...."Long Live the New Flesh"?

In Spain some movies are released with spanish dub and others with spanish subtitles so you were lucky that you didn't got Mad Maxes with popolopoplop dialogue :)

I know but I won't tell answer yet. In the same movie Debbie Harry gets her ear pierced with needle.

PRIMER is one of the best films ever made, even though it is an independent effort with almost no budget. If you like films like Momento, Pi, Donny Darko, Eternal Sunshine, Fight Club, 12 Monkeys and other "mind-benders" that get you thinking and replaying it over and over -- then I highly recommend Primer; it's the best of its kind.

Star Wars Episode III was rubbish. And I really wanted to like it, too, but then I went and saw it. So that was impossible. Like the other two in the Prequel Trilogy, it was terribly miscast (Hayden Christensen may have worked in almost any role other than Anakin Skywalker), and Lucas' dialog was so wretched that it made otherwise good actors seem like complete amateurs. The most emotion I could muster was wincing for poor Samuel L. Jackson as he had to say those idiotic lines with a straight face.

Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy was bad. I am so disappointed. I'm a huge Douglas Adams fan, and I've been waiting for a decent version of Hitchiker's Guide on film for 20 years. This wasn't it. It is possible that it simply cannot be translated to film and still retain the magic of the books. The Vogons were wonderful, though. And Zaphod was great. But the comedic timing was seriously off, and there was something vital missing in the leading roles... they were not connecting... it was much more dull than the books.

National Treasure was awful. Okay, maybe it was good for kids. It's no Indiana Jones, that's for sure. It appears to inhabit the same new and increasingly tiresome universe that "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "Van Helsing" hail from. A new breed of Hollywood fantasy that shimmers with squeaky-clean overproduction, too-sharp CGI (beautiful but cartoonish), vapid, formulaic storylines that are too cute/too pat/too easy -- and plot devices so heavy-handed and absurd that they defy any attempt to suspend disbelief, even briefly. They are obscenely high-budget visual treats stripped bare of nourishing substance.

And, apparently, we are going to get a lot more of this pabulum in the future, since a large number of people devoid of discriminating tastes are willing to pay good money for this tripe. Perhaps it is no big surprise, then, that some of the best films in the last few years have been independent productions and documentaries. Or maybe this is Hollywood's plan to curb piracy? Make it such crap that no one will even steal it?

Concerning good movies...one BIG problem that seldom comes to mind is a simple one--some of us were kids when 'Star Wars--1 started and now we think of retirement income rather than movies. In recent years, there have been a decent amount of good movies--although with today's technology there ought to be more. 'Chicago' was a good movie--even if the genre is not your cup of tea. 'I, Robot' was good. 'League of Extraordinary Gentleman' was marvelous--if you were taking LSD that day. Sometimes, when a great visual movie comes out, in order to top it takes more and more perfection and that's a tough nut. One of my very favorites is "Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf" with Liz Taylor and Robert Burton (and in B&W!). Get into that movie and you will never want marriage in your life! Fantastic dialog, flawless delivery, and the portayal of the art of bitchery without parallel. And, the whole thing was shot for peanuts because other than two brief scenes out of their home, it was a one-room movie. Sandy Dennis was the perfect dit-zoid simpleton--a hard bit of acting she excelled with. Again, I am waiting for "War of the Worlds" because on the TV teasers they seem to have some giant long-legged machine/creatures that snatch up stuff and people. A question to all--Would you rather watch a movie in the comfort of your own home (it is assumed you have a modern, quality setup) or would you rather see in theaters. I like home better now...the big screen can't be beat--BUT--I just **HATE** creepy people chewing stuff next to me, or mindless chatter. At home, one can have lots of goodies to eat and watch in boxer shorts. And--God bless captions--I always use them--too many lines are missed otherwise.

By the way, Mr. Burton's first name was Richard, the same as the explorer.

I watched Chicago yesterday with my girlfriend, and for my surprise I liked it a lot. I haven't usually liked musicals except few ones but this kicked.

Uh, I've spent last 3 days doing cover scans for finnish movie site (about 320 scans this far), and I noticed that all interesting movies I own but haven't watched yet are in beta format and my beta recorder is broken. That pisses me off!!!

"Chicago" was a neat movie for anyone...everyone liked it. You should maybe watch "Moulin Rouge"... real piece of eye-candy and unusual.

Moulin Rouge was little too glittering for me, I've seen it twice and it was nice but not awesome.

"Moulin" snagged me when the songs would start out with one song and end with a well-known Beatle's tune...and it seemed to work. I think Nicole Kidman on that big swing got under my skin as well.....

watched Constantine last night and while the effects were top notch i found the plot a bit hodge-podge. Even the devil himself turned up at the end, along with THE angel Gabriel and it was all a bit of a damp squib at the end
