Has anyone noticed that the original "pot stirrers" have yet to offer a rebuttle? I think we are all wasting our breathe here...and if trek8000 truly stop by weekly to lurk and learn about problem movies, he should surely have heard about about DVDFab Decrypter and VobBlanker by now and not need to sift through pages and pages of problems others are having. Just keep it updated and the headaches will cease.

Well honestly, it's all about dvd decrypter and dvd+r dl discs. Not too many problems you can run into there especially now that they sell DL discs in stores.

I agree with bilboa65--I learned almost everything I know from this forum and resisted AnyDVD for over a year. Now use it almost exclusively--I do however try to "stay in practice" and sometimes use exclusively freeware--It can still be done with only a little effort--Just my 2 cents.

In defense of some “newbies” I will say that the ‘search’ button works flakey at times. I’ve tried a search to find a particular thread and get no results. Then I start looking at the pages and find the thread I’m looking for. Sometimes I will search on a posters name that I know gave and answer to a certain question and it still has no results.

I’ll be the first to admit I’ve started new threads to questions that have been asked. I have used the search feature on this but either I get no results or there are so many different suggestions I’ll get lost in the information. As for AnyDVD I have the free 21 day trial. Has it worked? Not sure, I have yet to back-up a lot since I installed it. If it works, I’ll most likely drop the $40 on it.

    Just my $.02

I beleive there is a correlation between those who state their dislike for the suggestions to use AnyDVD and those who insist on using their perfectly good MemoreX discs instead of quality media....

It is funny how the person who started this thread has yet to reply. The more I have read these posts, the more ridiculous the original question seems. There are no secrets around here. There are several ways to back up your movies that will work every time. For many of the members here AnyDVD in conjunction with numerous other programs is the preferred method. When someone asks for help on a "problem" movie, we naturally respond with the combination that worked for us. If you a tired of seeing use AnyDVD than AnyDVD must be doing a pretty good job. If you don't want to use AnyDVD here is a link to an excellent guide written by Alkohol: http://www.k-probe.com/backup-movies-DVDDecrypter-PgcEdit-VobBLanker-Nero-Recode-2.php This method will work on any Dvd that you own. Happy burning.

    lol

Like I said, I think it's wrong to say we shouldn't recommend AnyDVD. Those recommending it are not forcing anyone to buy it. It's as simple as that. And, like it has already been mentioned, the reason why it is so frequently recommended is because it works so damn well!

Even though I have the program, I also have plenty alternative methods. I have CloneDVD, VOBB, Shrink, Nero, Decryptor, DVDFab, DVD-RB, and I think one more. I always try my trusted method first (Shrink then Decryptor with AnyDVD) but if for some VERY odd reason that doesn't work, I'll use another program--I won't start a new thread. If all of my contingency plans don't work, then yes, I'll look more in depth about how to crack this movie. And since I'm having this problem, there's a very good chance that someone is too so I'll look for the relevant thread.

It's just like school, when you sat there in class, not wanting to ask a question because you were embarrassed. What the teacher said is right and it also applies here, if you have that question, chances are someone else does too. So if you have a problem backing up a particular title, someone else probably does and it has already been posted. The moral of the story: search! (And the search will work, you just gotta tweak it. Either make it more specific or less specific if you narrowed it too much).

If this actually happened, there wouldn't be 10-15 Narnia threads (in addition to multiple Kong, Geisha etc. etc. threads) asking why Shrink isn't working.

Recommended is AnyDVD or DVDFab Decrypter, if you don't want to pay then use the free. Both work. However, when answering posts no one can know what your computer is capable of, what burner you have, what speed you burn, what media you are using. All of these things come into play when backing up. If the original poster is tired of AnyDVD being recommended then don't post, or read. There are plenty of other forums to use. Some of which do not recommend this program.

thread teleported to a more suitable forum.

i've only skimread part of the first page so far so only noticed a couple things for now...

    - Alkohol to name but one guy, bends over backwards providing endless info like this, even with really smart screenshots etc.

    - indeed; searching things out is a prerequisite for most things in life, never mind forums, yet too many ppl just don't like to search. the daft thing is they probably got here via a simple google search, sign up then lie on the floor helpless when the forums are chock-full of the very info (i should know, i teleport more threads around than Scotty on the Star Trek Enterprise, bless him) the google search pointed them to; i can accept ppl being given info and it meaning nothing to them, i understand and identify that (i face that some days at work, in the 6yrs in this job (self-taught - no mean feat, damn difficult sometimes still, i don't mind admitting) i've spent more time on google than the porn advertising ppl) but i don't understand what it is that stops ppl searching a bit more for themselves; maybe i scare them all or something.
However the bottom line is we won't change ppl's habits, maybe a couple along the way, but not the majority of the 'spoonfed' as i think of them. we just gotta get on with it and keep going, it'll never change unfortunately.

As to AnyDVD, whilst i don't have it i do remember back when it wasn't actually 'needed' for any releases, ie the free tools were sufficient to do the job; i remember once inadvertantly debating AnyDVD with bbmayo of all ppl. i lost the debate (i was gonna anyway, and i certainly didn't set out to debate stuff with him or anyone else), but at the time i was a bit of the attitude "we don't need AnyDVD as such" but i got over it LOL. Now it's shown itself to be an amazingly useful program and we should recommend to noobs to use the free tools AND AnyDVD or whichever we feel are the best for the job. There is no need to campaign tirelessly against AnyDYD; it's a bit like the ppl who endlessly defend bloody CMC crapnetics' discs, there's just no point to be like that, the rest of us recommend decent media because it saves MOST ppl time, money and effort (and lasting results), we don't just pander to the few ppl whose drives like the damn crapola CMC discs.

AnyDVD has been updated as previously mentioned see details below:

    AnyDVD History

    5.9.5.6, 2006 04 12
    - New: Added support for MacroVision CDS-300 Audio CD protection
to the option to "Remove CD Digital Audio Protection"
Protected Audio CDs can be copied to your portable music player,
played with normal CD Audio player software like Windows Media Player,
converted to MP3, etc. with the option to "Remove CD Digital Audio
    Protection"
    - New: Enhanced removal of copy protection from Audio CDs
    - New: Added display of removed Audio CD protection to the
    information window
    - Change: Safe mode is no longer enabled by default after a fresh
installation, because many users of 3rd party software complained.
    - Fix: AnyDVD could hang, if a CD-ROM is inserted with a corrupt
    directory
    - Updated languages

Ok first let me begin by answering a common question. People saying why didn’t the originator of this thread reply back. Well I started it last night, now it’s tonight….. 24 hours later and I’m replying, sorry for the delay but I work.

I guess most people get what I’m saying, I didn’t say anything bad about Anydvd it’s proven, it works great. As others said I’d just like to see people using the search function more often and other people stop saying Anydvd works, reply to that post Anydvd works, and below that post Anydvd works. Maybe they could start a forum titled something like DVD Backup El-cheapo Style. Then people could post what free programs worked for them to crack the dvd, not just pages upon pages of…. Anydvd works man…….

    I understand what your saying.
But it wont change.newbies refuse to use search
and or read the forums stickies.
This has been on-going since I have been here years ago.

if anyone wants a relable FREE method, Just use
Alkohol's guide it works on ALL movies (as siad before),
    http://www.k-probe.com/backup-movies-DVDDecrypter-PgcEdit-VobBLanker-Nero-Recode-2.php
But its surely not the EASIEST method,
Sometimes ease of use with newbies has to come into play as well.
Which is the reason why is suggested more often than not.

    And we work here too.
With 2 kids a wife and a couple magnums!

    Welcome to the forums.

    @trek8000
Well I read some of the endless posts on 'why can't I do this movie'
and can tell you that while yes you have you posters anydvd works! you also have other posters saying what they used freeware wise.
I also don't see much of people JUST pushing AnyDVD - usually they give the poster options - free and not free.
Lately if you use the search function members will usually find a copy of the screen from AnyDVD showing what protection the disc has. Very useful info supplied by an option in AnyDVD.
There are guides by alkohol and jaguargod that will show any member how to back up a movie using freeware. Again just use the search function.

LMFAO Ireland. That's just a little bit of rubbing it in, LOL

I'm afraid to recommend anydvd anymore. NOT!

A lot of peeps don't like change. They get use to the dvd shrink/autoburn with nero and wham-very simple backup process. Now with anydvd kicked in for the newer encryptions, they don't have to change their normal process.

I use it for On the fly for both cd and dvd. Some other peeps use it to make their drive/s region free. Even using to to play around with nero recode2.

I leave it disabled majority of the time. That way I can keep track of what movies shrink can and can't handle.Simple rightclick the fox icon/enable it and that's all she wrote.

Even with a thread titled: Backing up such and such movie with freeware will not stop all the extra threads that other newbs will start.

Well if you don't want it for DVD's then get it because it breaks the protection on CD's which is another plus for me and you don't have to worry about Sony Rootkit, AnyDVD will stop it.

Proper Disk Care if using anydvd pass this help info around to all members..........

    Proper Diskette Care instruction guide...

Never leave diskettes in the drive, as the data can leak out of the disk and corrode the inner mechanics of the drive. Diskettes should be rolled up and stored in pencil holders.

Diskettes should be cleaned and waxed once a week. Microscopic metal particles may be removed by waving a powerful magnet over the surface of the disk. Any stubborn metal shavings can be removed with scouring powder and steel wool. When waxing a diskette, make sure the surface is even. This will allow the diskette to spin faster, resulting in better access time.

Do not fold diskettes unless they do not fit into the drive. "Big" Diskettes may be folded and used in "Little" drives.

Never insert a diskette into the drive upside down. The data can fall off the surface of the disk and jam the intricate mechanics of the drive.

Diskettes cannot be backed up by running them through a photo copy machine. If your data is going to need to be backed up, simply insert TWO diskettes into your drive. Whenever you update a document, the data will be written onto both disks. A handy tip for more legible backup copies: Keep a container of iron filings at your desk. When you need to make two copies, sprinkle iron filings liberally between the diskettes
before inserting them into the drive.

Diskettes should not be removed or inserted from the drive while the red light is on or flashing. Doing so could result in smeared or possibly unreadable text. Occasionally, the red light remains flashing in what is known as a "hung" or "hooked" state. If your system is hooking, you will probably need to insert a few coins before being allowed to access the slot.

If your diskette is full and needs more storage space, remove the disk from the drive and shake vigorously for two minutes. This will pack the data enough (data compression) to allow for more storage. Be sure to cover all openings with scotch tape to prevent loss of data.

Data access time may be greatly improved by cutting more holes in the diskette jacket. This will provide more simultaneous access points to the disk.

Periodically spray diskettes with insecticide to prevent system bugs from spreading.
