Asus laptop screen wont turn on,,,

Well that's what I initially thought.

Have you tried removing the GPU then? Although from what I gather, the mobo doesn't have any onboard graphics.

You should be able to source a replacement GPU or a compatible alternative - probably worth trying for the money.

 

I have not yet taken it out I guess I can but im still trying to figure out whether or not I should try and have this one re - saldered or whatever they do to fix these or just buy a whole new one..

 

Well taking it out is a diagnostic step, as mentioned in ddp's post - so where you go from here is up to you.

 

Alright well I took it out and nothing seemed to happen any differently. I have been researched the heck out of it trying to find people with the same issues and I believe that it is the video card that needs to be replaced. I found the exact same 9800m gs on ebay for only $160 so I went ahead and ordered it. It should be here no later than Friday so I will update you on whether or not that fixes the issue. If it does GREAT, if not then the seller offers a 14 day refund so I will just have to send it back and order a new motherboard as that seems the next logical place to look. Thanks both of you for your help, I will be updating you as soon as I get my card in.

 

I say go for it.It sounds like a good deal to me.I also read about problems that people were having with this same video card the same model Asus laptop.Well you have a 50/50 chance so good luck and let us know how it goes.

 

ok try cooking it
take the motherboard out of the casing rmove all the extra bits except your 9800 graphics card and put it in the oven 380c for 9 minutes (not a mircowave)

reasoning: there was one year when they changed to lead free solder and lots of electricals have gone wrong from that year dv9000 series laptops, x boxes, graphic cards, wecurrently have a 7950gx2 that we cooked and it works great

 

So I got the 9800m gs graphics card in and it didnt do anything to fix my laptop sadly . So therefore that must mean my motherboard is no good. Now I will have to try and find a motherboard for a similar price hopefully. PCREPAIR, would the whole cooking thing fix a motherboard or is that just to fix the graphics card. I have to assume my original graphics card works fine since the new one had the same results.

 

I have no idea it's just a last ditch thing before throwing it away
try the motherboard first. or look on ebay where quite a few people are advertising repairing motherboards and thats what they are doing
