Minion, Thanks for the responce. A few follow up questons"

    1. What makes this unit better than say, the ATI WONDER? Is it the 'hardware' MPEG 2 compression?

    2. Is there any advantage to MPEG 4 that sone units can do?

3.The WinTV-PVR USB2 comes bundled with software that looks to be editing and authoring? If so, do I need the two programs you mentioned? Here is what comes bundled with the unit for $150:

    WinTV-PVR-usb2 includes:
125 channel cable ready TV tuner
Composite and s-video inputs to connect to VCR or camcorders
High quality MPEG2 video and audio encoder
High quality dbx-TV stereo decoder for TV
    FM stereo radio receiver
USB plug and play installation for laptops and PCs (supports USB 1.1 or 2.0, but records at higher video quality on USB 2.0)
Software includes: WinTV application for TV watching, pause and recording, plus ULead DVD MovieFactory for authoring and burning your videos onto DVD or CD-ROM.

    4. Lastly, what program converts the MPEG2 files into VOB files and generates the VIDEO_TS folder or can burning software burn directly from MPEG?

    Thanks again for the assistance.
    Don

    @myrealtr (Linda)

Minion, would she not be better to just buy one of those DVD recorders, that has VHS & DVD in one unit for recording, then she could record all her VHS to DVD no problems, quick, not too techincal, should work out well for Linda. She would not be editing it, but I feel this is her best way out.

    Good Day,
I read some other posts & they say that Transferring from your Camera to your PC with USB that you will loose Quality since The USB would compress the data down to Mpeg-1. While FIREWIRE will keep 100% quality. Is that wrong ?

Well I know very Little about Digital 8 Camcorders but if it is Digital and it records to DV Tape and it has a Firewire Port on it then "Yes" you can Transfer Via Firewire and get better quality than Via USB.....

    Cheers
