Thanks for the tip! I usually rip the BD movie to my C: drive then I use my D: drive as my working folder and create BD files there. Its the little things we forget about.... oh, and thanks again for the awesome program! I like the "batch" function, works great!!!

Good to see jdobbs is visiting from time to time. Has anyone had any problems with the 28 version of BD-RB? I did 3 movies, both in full backup and movie only modes and there was no audio. Power Dvd shows no audio in the on screen display. I reinstalled version 27 and all 3 movies worked perfectly. Just wondered if anyone else is having this problem. Any ideas?

    PS-mistake corrected

Nope, i've used it obscene amounts of times (with HC 0.23) with zero problems. I did have a couple movies with no audio but that was just due to me (stupidly) unselecting all audio tracks when ripping in DVDFab hence DVD-RB had no audio to work with. Cleaned my specacles afterwards as didn't notice until after DVD-RB had worked it's magic

You mean BD-RB right? Haven't had any issues yet but then I've been rolling slow on backups. What were the movies and I'll check to see if I have any on hand.

Oops. The penny's just dropped. Ignore my previous post, as the versions of BD-RB sound similar to DVD-RB i went off with the fairies. The stupid thing is that i knew exactly what thread i was in too!. I'd misread bigorange's typo of DB-RB as meaning DVD-RB. Doh!.

PowerDVD 7.3 had lost ability to play any DTS audio a couple weeks ago, and some other players were experiencing audio problems either no sound or scratchy and I began with disabling AC3Filter, which had been updated about the time the Audio Problems began, and gave audio playback back to some players with fddshow, and still No DTS with PowerDVD, so uninstalled PowerDVD and reluctantly installed OEM PowerDVD 8, which had came with a BR Burner, and was not pleased in the least with the overall performance, as it had several issues, and still No DTS either, but after installing an updated patch, then even a few players that still had some audio issues and PowerDVD's No DTS were at last All fixed! Say bigorange, In regards to a BD-RB efforts resulting with No audio playback in PowerDVD, then did you have No Audio with any other players ? Sometimes a setting or even the source can produce that end result. BD-RB Rules!

I must be getting dyslexic in my old age. Who knew a simple DB instead of BD could cause so much confusion. Sorry, my bad. I never was the greatest typist. Thanks anyway creaky.

Soph, the movies were Bonnie and Clyde, 3 Days of the Condor, and Night at the Museum. All 3 worked perfectly with version 27 with full menus also.

Chiamos, I'm using PowerDvd 9 Ultra and so far no problems with it. I have burned a movie before (once) without testing it on Power Dvd and when there was no audio I went back and ran the files thru it and sure enough it showed no audio in display settings nor played any audio as well. I'm pretty sure the problem doesn't lie there but thanx for the suggestion. Any and all thoughts on the matter are appreciated.

What really worries me is I just put together a new PC with the AMD Phenom ll 955 3.2GHz processor just for doing these confounded Blu-ray movies and installed Windows 7. What happens? jdobbs leaves a post about "BD"-RB having problems with Windows 7. Thanx Microsoft!

I had concerns about Windows 7 which prompted me to go with a dual boot system on my reencode workhorse.

    bigo

I'll try to review some of the movies that you mentioned.

Soph, do you think the current version of Directshow currently working for Vista would work in Win 7?

BTW, I really don't think the movies that didn't work w/version 28 has anything to do with it, the odds would be astronomical that I would only pick troublesome movies 3 out of 3, yet all worked perfectly with version 27. Maybe a clean uninstall/reinstall might fix it. I think I'll wait and try it on my new PC because 12-15 hours is to long to see what happens with my current set up. What do you think?

    Hello again.
Probably Win7 and BD-RB in that case, and maybe jdobbs has mentioned he is not using Win7 until it is Officially released, but it does appear many are using Win7 with BDRB with successful results and probably after doing a few minor tweaks. As for myself, I'm with jdobbs and will wait on the release of Win7.....just to keep things in their good working order. ;)

Vista 64x SP2, Intel Quad Core and BD-RB Rocks! :)

I just changed my computer to a AMD Phenom 9750 Quad-core with windows vista premium 64 bit sp1, and I downloaded BD RB on this computer and when I want to open it says "component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" Please help me.

This is a common issue with 64 bit Vista and Windows 7. I think that the problem is largely due to the operating systems preventing mscomctl.ocx from being registered by Windows. You will have to give your it permission to run on your system.

Below is a previous suggestion by jdobbs.

    Hello,

My appologies if my questions have been answered..

Is there a BIG difference in quality in the "encoder settings" for bluray?

Is one-pass much different as the other?

I'm putting everything on bd-r(25)s & just wondering the amount of time spent on is worth while (ie, high speed option vs Good (faster))??
by choosing a lesser/quicker option, Does it reduce fps? Does it reduce clarity?

    thanks in advance.

If you're referring to Blu-Ray vs AVCHD compliance then there is no qualitative difference since they are essentially the same with only some basic structural differences.

If you're talking about the speed of reencoding then there will be some difference. Slower and longer allows the encoder to more accurately calculate how bitrate is distributed across the entire movie. The same is even more true of single pass versus two pass where the first pass is dedicated to finding the optimal bitrate and the second pass gets the work done.

There are other factors to also consider such whether one is trying to fit the final result on a single layer or dual layer standard DVD media, or going for broke and shooting for a BD-25 disc. If you're going for a standard BD-25 disc than speed of reencoding and a second pass has less effect on the quality of the final result.

A purest will of course tell you that you should use every benefit that you can to get the best result that you can, and then there are those like me who try to go for the best efficiency per dollar spent.
