I was one of the earliest supporters and donors of DvdRebuilder and still enthusiastically promote it. Now we have BD-RB which is another triumph by jdobbs. So you can imagine my chagrin when I upgraded my system with the newest, fastest AMD processor and installed Windows 7 and now I can't use BD-RB except on my 12-17 hour PC which ain't all bad cos it's better than not being able to back up my Blu-ray at all but it isn't 5 hours which is what I did Godfather in w/Ripbot. BD-RB is more versatile and even in "movie only" mode you get chapter selection and subtitle options.

Needless to say if this fix works I'll be ecstatic and I promise to send in my donation right away which I regret to say I haven't yet but should've. I hope everyone else has sent jdobbs a little something for his efforts and hasn't been a slacker like me. Also if the past is any indication, when we donated to DvdRebuilder and it later went commercial, all of us early donors got a free copy w/upgrades that I'm still receiving today.

PS-Thanx Soph, after reading in Doom 9 from Chiamos' post(thanx Chiamos) I was under the impression jdobbs wasn't addressing this problem until W7 went out of beta. I'll let ya know if it works....fingers crossed...

Feregrino, I JUST downloaded the latest version of BD-RB using 64 bit and installed it and voila!!!! it worked!! Haven't read the changelog yet but maybe jdobbs fixed it for us. Plan on reading it today. BTW, I just sent my donation jdobbs, sorry it took so long.

I'm in the middle of finding out how well BD RB is going to work on Windows 7 64bit. I was previously using the same computer to reencode with Vista 32 bit and then added another hard drive, installed Windows 7 to create a dual boot system.

I just setup BD RB on Windows 7 64 bit this morning and immediately went about receiving the same mscomctl.ocx errors that were reported by others. I ran it as administrator and that didn't work either at first but then I right clicked on mscomctl.ocx, chose properties, then change, and I navigated to the BD RB file in the BD RB folder and clicked ok. Then I clicked on BD RB again and up it came. I am about halfway through reencoding the movie Eagle Eye which I've set to fit on a single layer DVD media. If it all works out I will let you know later because the first pass does not tell the story it is only a calculation of available bitrate and space.

Soph, I was going to go the same route you did but for some reason this version installed and is running even as we speak and none of the others would. Strange, huh?

I'm doing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, full backup, 2 pass on DL Verbatim. I also will let you know how it turns out.

Mine just finsihed in 3 hours and 43 minutes so the time of reencode is about the same as I got on Win XP, Vista 32 bit. I'm going to go burn it now and play it back to see if I'm receiving any playback errors. Later

I burned Eagle Eye to a single layer DVD media and then played it back on my LG. I skimmed through it chapter by chapter and saw no visual artifacts or experienced no audio issues. Pleas note that this is just suggestive that there are no issues because there is no way to truly know without playing the entire movie all way through but it is highly likely with the above test that it will play. The other issue that hasn't been tested is playback on stand alone player since I decided that they weren't worth the money and went with an HTPC solution instead. The software used to play it back was ArcSofts TMT 2X.

Ok, I've done 3 Blu-ray movies: Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Cinderella Man, & Unforgiven with BD-RB v.28.04 on Win 7, all with perfect results and all at 5 hours or less. These were all 2 pass full backups to Verbatim DL discs. Looks like this version's a winner!

I'm not for sure if this has been brought up yet or not.

Is it possible to BD-rebuild a movie that's already been rebuilt ?

    For Example:

Lets say I have 45GB movie that I have already rebuilt without menus, and now the movie is 21.6GB. Am I able to rebuild that 21.6GB movie down to a 7.5GB file at a later date ? I am wanting to do this because I would like to back all of my Blurays up on the 25GB blanks, and after doing that I would then like to store the movies on a hard drive. If I am storing the 21.6GB files on a drive I won't be able to get many movies on a drive. But if I can "shrink" the 21.6GB file down to a 7.5GB file, I should be able to store 3 times as many movies for a HTPC setup.

    Any thoughts or advice ?

Yes! As long a the original rebuilt movie is in blu-ray format, then all you have to do is rip it, make your settings in BD RB and go for it.

Has anyone had success on a Vista 64 machine? BD-RB has worked fine for me on my 32 bit Vista PC but my HD crapped out and is now temporarily out of commission. I installed all the software on the 64 bit Vista pc I have and received an encoding error. I have Klite 64 codecs already installed and then I installed the Matroska Splitter and AviSynth indicated on page 1. Is there a 64 bit verson of these apps that needed to be used instead of the apps in the first page? Any advice for people using Vista 64?

Hello, I am new to bd rb, I'm planning on back up 50g to 25g, is there an option for me to take out audios I dont want to save space for video, or is 25g enough to keep everything with excellent quality that I wont be able to tell from the original.
I apologize if this question has been asked.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can not only take out audio but if necessary reencode the audio to 448kbs AC3 which would save tones of space. In the end the storage size of movie doesn't have much to do with the movies needs because of are extras such as audio, trailers, and commentary. The requirements of a movie is mostly determined by the number of frames in a movie which in turn is measured from the movies runtime. So you might have a large 50 gig file but if you were to go with a movie only backup and single audio file then you'll be already starting with a much smaller file before reencoding even begins. 25g is more than enough for all standard length movies and probably most extended length movies as well.

Yes, as many have had much success. Since you've had experience with BD-RB, and want same success, but with Vista 64, then you should first dump the klite codecs, and for that matter, uninstall all other codecs that you've maybe previously installed, then make certain you install the ffdshow version shown on the first page, then go into the fddshow Video Decoder Configuration and open "Codecs" and activate the "MPEG2" Format to the "libavcodec" Decoder, and for the "VC-1" Format select "wmv9". You've indicated that Avisynth is installed and along with Matroska, and I've found that splitter does well placed on the root (C?) Drive. This should get you on to the path for success once again.
    Good Luck
