Here's a screen shot which should give a good idea.

I just found this site a couple weeks ago. Sounds like a great program. Haven't tried it yet, need at lest a reader. I did donate a small amount of $ but when I went to the site I noticed that he has the Pro version, and wiil send it to anyone who sends $29.95 (usd). What will happen to this trial version when it is done. The last time I donated to a new program I got burnt. I'll just see how things work out. It looks like BD-rebuilder has been around for awhile. I will try this program out real soon.

    Soph,

Another question, if I abort the process, can I resume later without any issues?

    Thanks

You're looking at two separate applications by jdobbs. The one that has the pro version is for standard DVDs only and it is out of beta. The only version of BD RB available is the beta version and that's for free. The donations are to help him acquire equipment and blu-ray movies to help test his changes. Each time a new movie with an issue pops up it requires acquiring it for testing. He could rent it but that's not legal and jdobbs won't cross that line.

If you abort you will have to restart the process.

Thanks Soph. I'm glad he fills that way. I don't mind helping but when they say if you help they will let you have the program free when it is done. Then don't give you anything. Thats what I don't Like. I might give more later if things work out.

It's not all altruism either since he gets to keep the movies and computer hardware used to test, and if there is any left over he can spend t for whatever he wants to spend it on. Making an application such as BD RB requires a tremendous amount of time because no two blu-rays will be the same. What works well with one disc might fail with another and each failure requires more testing to find both the cause and cure. He is in turn giving us all an application that no commercial software company is willing to.

Where DVD RB Pro came in was back during its later development when some of us started requesting certain features to allow us to tweak the outcome. This resulted in a lot of extra time being required for what was basically an already completed application, and some of us were willing to pay for it. The free version was then and is now the original version without all the extras that many would never use.

    CURRENT VERSION 0.29.04 (September 13th, 2009)
    http://www.jdobbs.net/freeware/BD-RBV02904.zip

    - Made one more adjustment to prevent "GUI Issue,
no hWnd returned". I think this may be gone for
good now. It finally became clear as to what was
    causing this to randomly occur.
    - Fixed an error in which progressive output could
under some circumstances be created at an illegal
    (29.97fps, 25fps) framerate.
    - Changed the default processing for interlaced
sources. All sources that are interlaced now are
kept interlaced in the output. This means the
"KEEP_INTERLACING" INI setting has been removed
    (as unnecessary)
    - Added a "DEINTERLACING=" hidden option, see the
    description in HIDDENOPTS.TXT for details.
    - Changed the type of AVISYNTH preprocessing used to
    ensure comb-free deinterlacing. Interlaced sources
should be more crisp, and free of jagged edges now.
    - Corrected a "Selected source is not BD format" error
that could happen on very small sources.
    - Added a "quick search" function to identify sources
that are Bottom Field First (BFF) interlaced.
    - Added code to scan all M2TS files and find audio
streams that have delayed PTS times (for correction).
    - Other minor corrections and cosmetic fixes.

Another question. I have the setting to bd-25 but the back up would be 19-22gb. Does bd rb not maximize the full 25gb space?

Also, what exactly does the check box "Do not reencode ac3/dts" do? Does it take the current dd or dd+ and compress it like it would with video? If I want maximum space for video then I should leave this box uncheck?

    Thanks

There are a couple of issues that increase with the size of movie. The bitrate of a movie along or the number of frames determines the size. This is as a rule measured using a series of calculations. You calculate the length of the movie in seconds, the available storage size available on the media, and then you have to do the same for the audio unless you intend to leave it as is and then you add it to your video calculation total. BD RB has to be able to do calculate correctly for each movie If you calculate too closely to the size of a movie you could easily run over and it won't fit on the disc and that could be an issue with many. Then there are lead in and lead out requirements. jdobbs has built a little safety headroom into BD RB so that it will be guaranteed to fit your BD 25 media. A blu-rAy movie looks almost indistinguishable from the original even when recorded to dual-layer media which is only a third the size of a BD 25.

I have a question, when I first started using BD rebuilder I tried to encode a BD25 to a DVD9, the process went fine - but when I tried to play it in my Panasonic BD80K it said it was an unsupported disk...Is this the player expecting a BD25 or 50 disk because of the file structure, or is there another possiblity? I didn't think to try to play it on my PC drive(s) w/ power dvd - maybe that would have worked.

If it is my standalone, can someone suggest ones that accept DVD9 or DVD5 disks which are encoded from BD25 or BD50 disks?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Otherwise - my hat is off to everyone - mr. jobbs - good job so far - it is a great tool!

Some players will not play a DVD 9 BD movie, but I can't say if yours is one or not. Try this under settings "stricter AVCHD for compliance movie only." Panasonic's should support AVCHD. I use an HTPC solution which plays everything.

Would this mean I could only do movie only encodings, or would 'stricter AVCHD" allow complete disk encodings?

    Thank you for the tip...!!!

The AVCHD selection is for movie only. The issue that you're having is very likely the result of your player only. I don't know all of the ones that won't work but if you surf around you should find the answer.

Panasonic is the worst for this. I have one also which has problems. Although it's a BD-35K series, not BD80K, when it comes to playing BD on DL discs, it sucks! It won't play "movie only" either. They were the same way years ago, when Dvd first came out Panasonic used a different format (Dvd Ram) than everyone else(Dvd +R,-R). I also have a Sony (BDP series) and a Sylvannia Blu-ray player, both play everything I throw at them. My PS-3 is a little pickier, but plays most that I put in it.

Movie only mode is always going to be more compatible but I only use it as a last resort as I like the entire disc, so I know for a fact both these players work. You can get the Sylvannia right now for about 170.00 which ain't bad cos it retails for 220.00-240.00.

Also, Samsung and Philips(7000 series) are both relatively inexpensive, for BD players that is, that will play these discs. In fact, believe it or not Philips plays everything you can throw at it (both Dvd and BD players) with a very reasonable price tag. If you're looking high end, Pioneer makes a REALLY nice one that works(800.00-1000.00).

BTW, don't know what you're using but I use only Verbatim and Ridata DL discs, everyone will tell you media is extremely important.

One last note, if you use Power Dvd to play these movies, be sure to check "Power Dvd virtual drive detected workaround" in AnyDvd when ripping to your HD. Hope this helps. BigO

thank you for letting me know that movie only probably will not work, I'm sorry to hear that, but you have definainately helped me out, I might look into one of the players you suggested, will any of the sylvania bd players do?

i always use verbs, and now taiyo yuden for dvd+r. I am still wondering weather with movie only and stricter AVCHD compliance does one have to have booktype as dvd+r and dvd+r dl instead of dvd-rom, and also what about the certificate folder for movie encodes.

and yes I have found out about the power dvd workaround - many thanks again...

The model I have is the Sylvania NB500SL9, I just saw it on Amazon.com for about 152.00 plus 11.00 shipping. They have it listed at 322.00 which is a little high but for 163.00 it is a great deal, mine works perfectly. Here is the link:

I'm using Image Burn, so No.

I just thought of getting the sylvania NB530SLX or sony BDP-S360, the sylvania seems to have a better remote and better features, but I am unsure how well it support BD rebuilder dvd9 encodes - I read in the forum that the sony bdp-s360 supports quite well I purchased the sylvania for 166 - the sony for 172, I will have to return one of them, I am thinking maybe better to be safe and stick with the sony, although I don't like some of the operation methods, chapter title search and other functions which the sylania seems to have thought out better, also the audio output on the sylvanis seems better thought out, any ideas??

thanks for alll the replies and help

Both work well, I'm not crazy about Sony's remote, but it has played EVERYTHING I've thrown at it.
