Since I never keep subs, could you explain to BigDk how to do it with RB? There are probably others who are going to ask the same question.

Sorry, I originally asked if subs can be enabled automatically assuming that BD-RB had subtitle support.

Without actually going through the whole encode it looks like you can keep as many subtitle streams as you'd like. In the Stream tab, expand the subtitle tree, make sure there is a "a beside the stream of choice, double clicking the stream can change it's status, all other streams should be "X'd" out... basically the same process as choosing audio.

Having your subtitles automatically play, this is done once BD-RB is done it's thing. Use BDedit (link) for this.

    1. Open BDedit
    2. Browse for your BD structure, open the BDMV folder
    3. Hit the "Read" button
    4. Highlight the "0001" line on the right hand side.
    5. Hit the "+" to the right of that

    6. Highlight the new line

    7. Input the following shown below, do not input the "Hex" values, they will update once the other settings are made. Once complete hit the "Save" button.

Doing this will enable subtitles automatically so you do not need to turn them on upon initial playback.

Thanks. It should be helpful to those that are interested in keeping subtitles.

One small thing. Your version of RB is slightly dated. The latest verson is 17.13.

Thanks... Updated. Honestly though, I haven't used BD-RB yet, the next title I feel is worthy of archiving I will though.

I have a blu ray movie that I wanted to try to rip and then fit onto a dvd. I installed everything Any dvd hd,ffdshow, haali media splitter, combined community codec pack. I used my PS3's blu ray drive with Linux(Yellowdog 6.1) and copied the BDMV and Certificate folder over the network to my pc's harddrive. I then used those two folders and created an ISO image. Then mounted the iso with Virtual Clone Drive. Any DVD detected it and I ripped it to a folder on my desktop. I opened the root folder with BD Rebuilder and it looked like it work cuz I could see the movie and audio tracks. I started the rebuilder and as soon as it gets the first 100% finished I get this error

    [00:37:38] BD Rebuilder v0.17.13 (beta)
    - Input BD size: 26.79 GB
    - Approximate total content: [01:40:58.135]
    - Target BD size: 4.27 GB
    - MOVIE-ONLY mode enabled
    [00:37:39] PHASE ONE, Encoding
    - Reached retry limit. Aborting.
[00:48:51] - Failed video encode, aborted

and along with that error i get an error from haali media splitter say that the type of file is not recognized? Any suggestions ppl?? Thanks for any help.

I'm inclined to think that you have a setup issue, but I can't say for sure. I'll post your info in the BD bug thread and see what turns up, but in the meantime I would suggest that you review your initial setup to insure that you have all the correct applications, and recommended versions.

Here is a reply to your previous question from jdobbs.

More often than not when something doesn't work it is a good idea to review ones setup.

Thanks for the help. I am trying a different movie this time. First one was Babylon AD. Now im doing Shutter. I copied the entire contents from the disc via Yellowdog 6.1 on my PS3 and again sent it to my pc. Made an ISO with imgburn. Decrypted the ISO with any dvd hd. I loaded it up in BD Rebuilder and so far so good! Its actually working now. Im on pass 1 right now at 70%, overall progess at 30%. I noticed at the bottom of BD Rebuilder there is an FPS thing. Mine says 7.51. Is that normal? Thats not actually going to be the FPS when its completed is it? I'll let you know how things turn out on this one. Thanks again for the help!

Please forgive my ignorance...I've been backing up DVDs for quite awhile and am now looking into the move to Bluray. I've noticed all the talk about backing up Bluray movies to DVD-5 and DVD-9 discs. Obviously there is a great cost savings to this. My question is, with the cost of BD-R media dropping (25GB at least), is there an option in the software to adjust the size of the output file to fit movies on a 50GB disc to fit on a 25GB disc?

Yes! jdobbs is a cheapskate, well sort of. LOL

The options for BD RB includes a choice for single layer, dual layer, and BD 25GB disc which is more than enough for any BD movie regardless of its original size.

No that's letting you know how many frames its encoding.

Sophocles: Is there anyway to add a little touch to BD-RB PQ like adding a profile from Megui since it using Avisynth.

Ahhhh....sweet success!! It worked this time. I dont know why the other movie was giving me so much problems. The only different thing I did this time was copy the "entire" disc instead of just the bdmv and certificate folders.

I can now update on the quality of the back-up of Apocalypto BD to DVD-9.
Ran movie only with original soundtrack AC3 ans English subtitles.
The quality on this film was way too poor to make watching it possible.
I was expecting it to be hard for a film with such detail in the background, but the result was very pixelated when displayed onto a Samsung LE40A656
Will run another encode to BD25 and playback from HDD this time to see how that handles it.
Still happy with the program, as being able to just delete the unwanted material makes it worth using.

I find that interesting because below is a quote from jdobbs, and he seems to have gotten different results. I already have a standard DVD copy of the movie but I guess I'll have to acquire a BD copy and give it a try. I would think that two hours and 18 minutes should fit on a Dual layer disc without any serious flaws. I backed up King Kong from HD DVD to BD without any viewable artifacts and it's over 3 hours in length. I guess this is what testing is all about.:D

    @ BigDK,
I backed up backed up this title to DVD9 with DTS @ 1536kb/s, the picture was pretty outstanding... however I did not use BD-RB... but the results should be similar. Something must be wrong with how things were set up. Did you use a 2 pass encode, or did you choose a fast encode over a slow encode?

I wouldn't have choosen single pass over double by default, but might have done so by mistake.

I'll give it another run and see what the results are like next time.

It definately sounds like my setup or process, so I'll see if things can be improved next time around.

OK guys, sorry to start a new question but I'm struggling to get to grips with all this blu-ray back up stuff. Right I've down sized a blu-ray from 50gb to 22gb so it will fit on a 25gb disc using BD-Rebuilder. All seems to go ok but when I burn to disc and try playing it back in a stand alone player the disc starts displays "play" for a few seconds then "stops". Obviously I'm doing something wrong or some settings are not set right. anyone able to help please.

    Cheers,
    TR.
