So you're saying that using any other media that is not ritek will wear out the laser until it brokes?

No it may not be the main cause but as it is good media it will slow the process down a little.Ps2 have bad lazers full stop.Look around the site's and see how many have lazer replacements compared to ps1 xbox dreamcast and Nintendo you will find ps2 is at top spot for site's offering new lazers. You could say but they sell more but you would be wrong.I purchased my xbox just after my ps2 and it is still going strong and my ps2 well i have had 2 and a lazer replacement for the second.PS2 lazers are not has good as other consoles and that is a fact.
    Thanks

Are they better or worse compared to Memorex in terms of quality alone?

Peronally i would say Ritek is a better quality disc than memorex going from my own personal experience i have had with both media's.But some may say it is the other way around. But i think the majority would say Ritek.

memorex +R usually uses good quality dye, but the -R usually uses the subpar cmc mag dye.

Yep it's really all about what suits your drive and memorex did not suit my Lite-on.I have not really tried on my NEC.But my peffered choice suit both so i'am happy and thats what it's all about.

    Ritek rules/

I've got a sony DVDRW burner.

    Hasn't failed me once.

The secret is in the DVD-R media (Ritek- Rivision rules)

Well have a friend who has a Toshiba and it is broke down and he hardly uses. Most people stick with Pioneer,Plextor,Sony,NEC,Lite-on you can't go wrong with these drives as they are proven work horses.Worst drive i have ever LG do not like but that just my opion.
