@ireland i had me one like that in me backyard once, parents werent to happy wiht me. ive always wanted to get my hands on a grenade or a whole roll of detcord. but preferably the detcord, i could have more fun with it. plus i could make my own grenade if i wanted, wouldnt be that hard really, but also not as fun as the detcord. @lecsiy the easiest thing to do is use a big thing of draino, makes a pretty nice boom. or you could always just do like me and just fill random things with gunpowder and watch them blow up. heck you dont even need regular gunpowder really, just scrap the powder out of any thing you would buy at a fireworks stand and pack it, light it, and run.
Why settle for Napalm if you can have Thermite? And for all the wannabe bombers out there, check out Uncle Fester's Home Workshop Explosives and don't say i didn't warn ye about losing some fingers...
Wow what a response!! didnt know how many pyros really were on this forum!! Well me and a mate settles for a good old petrol bomb! Was pretty cool ooo and im looking at that bomb cookbook right now!
@Nephilim, I thought they wanted like home made stuff. I got to test fire ONE atomic warhead my team assembled. That was enough to scare the heck out of anyone. Not something you want to build at home LOL. Jerry
By the time I was involved in warhead assembly, above ground testing wasn't allowed. So I never got to see the mushroom cloud everyone is familiar with. The underground test was quite enough. I was involved with artillary deployment of the warhead. The test was underground so no big gun was involved but it felt like an earthquake out 20 miles. It was done in the Pacific on one of the islands thats probably not there anymore LOL. That area was used for testing several times. Jerry
Jerry wins! They may not have been made at home but you still made them - does that count fellas? SOCOMII, Back in the fifties the military developed tactical nukes which were basically a nuke fired out of an artillery piece. Jerry was involved in making the warheads which is why he doesn't own flashlights - his soft green glow makes them unnecessary Here's a link for you, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_Annie
Got a DVD about underground nuclear testing, simply amazing the destructive power of an "average" thermonuclear device!
Whats kind of funny about the w79 atomic round is that most stories say it was added to the US arsenal around 1980. My assembly team was active 1969 to 1971. I had to be rated at top security level to go to school for that baby. It was kept pretty quiet that we had such a round for the 8 inch gun the first year I was into it. I was deployed to Viet Nam with the understanding that my team MAY BE NEEDED there, even though nukes were not supposed to be in country. Good old government hog wash. Average yield was 20 kilo ton out of a shell 8 inch diameter by about 3 feet high. Jerry
@the feind yes your right thermite would be more fun, i need to make me another batch of that stuff when i get the chance. thats actually really cool jerry, bet they wouldnt let you tell that stuff for along time huh?
I was attached to a standby reserve unit for 5 years after I got discharged with an emergency call up rider. I could have been recalled at any time if needed. Because of that it was necessary to keep all info to myself for years. Jerry
I had alot of fun with dry ice bombs, a loud noise but no smoke, heat or flames. It can really screw with your roommates' heads. Made one with saltpeter and sugar, then made my friends think I was crazy by eating the explosive leftovers. Put a thermite grenade on the hood of a car and watched it melt all the way through the engine. Ah, yes, the good old days.
Hehe today me and a friend made a rocket BAsically ingredients were : Vinegar and soda powder in a gas tight bottle. Let the pressure out! Loosen the lid and chuck on the ground! Nice lil rockets we made! Although the stench is disgusting! Thought id relive this thread! Any body got any other suggestions for a budding pyro?? Lecsiy
sorry but I am not at liberty to discuss any explosions that i may or may not have been a part of. just for the record, i was at a crowded shopping mall when that one went off at the neighbors house, and there are many witnesses to testify to my whereabouts.
Working on my grandfather's farm, I learned about carbide bombs. Let me explain some things you mightfind useful. When calcium carbide is exposed to air and water it produces a gas that will kill small animals. Farmers often pour it down gopher, rat, or groundhog holes, then dump in some water and put a rock over the hole. The animal is gassed to death. Some of the nastier kids used to place amounts of carbide into the toilets at our school. The idea was to place the carbide bomb in the toilet, leave a lighted cigarette on the seat, and run like hell. The carbide would combine with the water to produce a huge cloud of noxious gas, which would explode when it hit the lighted cigarette the perpetrators left behind. This little homemade bomb did more damage than an M80.
Nice!! ALthough im looking for something. Erm how do i put this.... A little less toxic! hehehe thanks for your input! Alex
Last year, we set off 3/4 stick of dynamite in my aunt's backyard. The white shock wave knocked over a plastic chair sitting about 15-20 yrds away. And cracked a glass sitting beside the chair. And...about 2 years ago I mixed 3 M-80's into one and added .40 oz. of extra black powder. Straped it to a lava-lamp sitting on a stump. Ran behind a tree for protection from glass shards. We measured glass 1/2 inch deep in the tree bark. I'm making a few plans for next project. Edit: Haha, do share.
