It already is quiet, and already runs hot.
    (Current situation)^2 = danger!

A silent PC should have Passive/Liquid cooling, SSD's and No Fans. The Ultimate silent PC, also the ultimate price.

Watercooling pumps make more noise than 80mm fans... :p

I never knew that, probably because I have never gone with water cooling. So the ultimate silent PC would probably be SSD's and passive cooling throughout. It won't be that powerful though.

Indeed, but a careful selection of components means air cooled components can still be powerful, take EndPCnoise's 8800GTX system for example, as quiet under load as a single realsilent case fan.

486 run from a scooter battery anybody?

Heres a good one for performance not living up to specs..

Celeron 760.. doesn't transcode an avi as fast as an old p2 400. 512 ram in each... actually the same hardware drives etc.. both machines are originally dell.... same OS everything. Celeron took 7 hours, p2 took 5 1/2. That should be the other way round going off the numbers. Makes you think hard about the published performance figures from manufacturers.
