RMA update...... After receiving my repaired unit from CyberHome, I am happy to report that currently there are no problem issues....no stuck discs left in drawer overnite, no coasters, good tuner audio, etc. I applied the latest BIOS updates without incident. So far, so good. Durability remains to be seen, however. At this point, am happy to report that I am pleased. BTW, Maxell +R discs seem to be the best for me.....Those recorded on the 1500 will play on all the players I've tested. The CyberHome +RW discs do too....lesson leared here....DO NOT USE CHEAP MEDIA!

I don't agree with renderman. It is not the cheapness of the media per se. I use generic DVD+R and also Maxell and Memorex +R & +RW. I get about the same number of errors on either. One thing I DO notice is that people keep saying that they use 2.4X media. I believe the recording manual specifically says that you may have trouble using 2.4, so I only use 4X. I also find that the tuner volume is not an issue if you hook up through the VCR and then back to the DVD again. I haven't used any of the firmware updates either. That is all. Out.
I was going to return my unit back to wal-mart but thay would not take it. Im now having problems with the volume on recorded disc's, it will record fine but there is no volume, I checked all the RCA cable. Does anyone have a phone # for CyberHome. Im going to return this unit back to CyberHome to see if thay can fix it and put the updates on it
To All.... I appologize for the multiple posts. When I hit the reply button, my post would not "go". I waited, and waited, and waited. Then I got pissed and hit the button repeatedly.....very stupid, I know.... Truly sorry, Renderman
Hey adambomb, To get my unit repaired via RMA, I contacted sales@cyberhome.com They responded immediately. I sent the unit UPS to them, they repaired it, and sent it back to me. Got no response from service, so I tried sales, and got their attention. They appologized for the frustration, and promised my unit would perform correctly, and it did....turnaround time was 9 days start to finish.
adambomb, Why wouldnt Walmart take it back? I've never heard of Walmart not taking stuff back. I'm relying on that. Wouldn't have bought from them otherwise...
Wal-Mart would'nt take the unit back cuz i didnt have the receipt & the bar code on the box couldnt be scanned(Bull Shit). If Cyberhome does not reply to my E-mail's & fix the fix the problems with my unit, would someone be willing to let me use there receipt. Just mail it to me, I will return the unit and mail it right back to you Thanks Everyone, Adam

Just like everyone else here, I like to share my Cyberhome 1500 Nightmare. I started shopping for a DVD recorder and read the reviews on Amazon along with all the known issues and decided to get one anyways from Walmart. Day 1. Loved the Unit works great! I don't know why people are complaining about this awesome unit. Day 3. Keep in mind I'm still using the 3 DVD/RW that came with the unit. I finally filled up all 3 DVD/RW with shows and decided to put Disc 2 back in. The DVD acted like it was blank and everything was gone. I thought to myself strange but life continues. Week 1. I hated the DVD menu so I decided to pop the DVD into my PC and used Ulead DVD to customize the menu. Play great on the PC until I tried it in the Cyberhome. Week 2. DVD was stuck.Yes everyone complained about the Eject problem and I had it too. I tried power on/off then decided to Google it. Found this forum and tried the Enter-Return-Enter, Enter,Left Arrow,Enter. No luck. Google some more and found a thread that said just open it up and push the manual eject button. That worked. Week ?. Try to find the receipt. Gone! Forget about returning to Walmart. Decided to Flash the Bios/Firmware. Handful of hair left on my head. The DVD that I modifed with ULead are still getting stuck in the drive but withe the new firmware, I am now able to Bypass the bootup screen and eject the DVD with Enter-Return-Enter command. They still won't play. Withe the new firmware, I was able to set the time to AM/PM versus military. Then I powered it off with the remote and It won't power it back on. Yes the same thing everyone complained about with the new firmware was happening to me too. Moral of the story. Pray for rain and get ready to deal with mud. Buy cheap stuff and you too may have 4hair-left. EOF
4hairleft...After trying to contact CyberHome's Customer Service via internet, and phone (always busy..and then no answer) I decided to quit while I'm ahead..and still have hair..and it's on it's way back to HSN today. Along with the unit, I've written a letter to HSN about my disappointment in their not throughly investigating CyberHome's Customer Service Department, or lack of. I guess the moral to this story is, if a bargain looks too good to be true, it probably isn't a bargain after all. Now I'm out, not only with the time I wasted trying to install it, but also the postage and insurance to mail it back.
Now that I am on Version: U0226200401X Date: 2/29/04 and Servo Version: 128A Date: 2/28/04, all the buttons are frozen. I left a DVD in over night and this morning when I tried to turn it on with the remote, It locked up. I physically switch the unit of from the back and turned it back on and still nothing. The front panel show Cyberhome and the screen shows the Cyberhome Logo blue screen but that's about it. So I used local.google.com to search for Cyberhome and found the following # (510) 353-6099. I called and asked for Tech support and after about a 5 min wait I was talking to ROY. I explained my issues with old and new firmware and asked what version of the firmware the RMA department was sending back out to the users. He said 02162004 and 124A. I asked when these issues wil be fixed and he said they are constantly updating their firmware. He gave me 2 choices. RMA and get the old firmware or return the item back to Walmart. With the old firmware, DVD writting and modified on PC would just lock up the unit. I could not bypass the initial reading screen with the E-R-E Key. With the new firmware, it won't function. I like the unit alot and I know other manufactures have their own problems ie Panasonic E30x series.. but I'm thinking it's not worth it. Perhaps when the product is more mature, I will reinvest my time in this unit.
i've had my unit for about 3 weeks now and, knock on wood, i have no complaints. i'm recording in sp mode, ripping to pc with dvd decrypter, and making menus and such with tmpgenc dvd author. this process and the unit have yielded great results so far. i do have one question though. is it normal for the disc to be very warm after recording or editing? when i take a disc out of mine it's pretty warm. i haven't had any problems, but i was wondering if this is ok, or if it may cause problems in the future.
I have had my unit for 3 or 4 weeks also and have upgraded to the lates firmware and had no problems yet.I have recorded 10 or 12 movies and copied some previously burned dvd's with it and everything is still OK as of now.The discs do get pretty warm when recording or viewing them.I saw a post in this thread some one made about after viewing a disc several times that they would get an error reading disc message and the disc would no longer work.It has not happened to me yet..crossing fingers behind back.
