Doesn't anyone use the guides before posting "how-to" questions?

    Hi

I'm looking for a tutorial or hints for copying a DVD into a CD...I have downloaded DVD Decry. & DVD shrink 3.2 & DVD Fab. I also have Nero 6.0.0.18
It’s a work presentation in DVD. My GF doesn't have a DVD reader on her laptop, only CD-RW, so she needs it in cd format....

I briefly read some guides here but it's mostly for DVD to DVD ...
    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

for now I went as far a saving the dvd using DVDFab on my HDD...but what's next....I tried yesterday with Nero, but it didn't work....

    Can anyone help please?

    TIA

    Stef

    @ LOCOENG,

I have successfully backed up a few old dvd's, such as The Butterfly effect, Juice, and Kids. Durring my process, i have used the guide from that comcast site. it is very good. but not only do i want only JUST the movie, i would like to have the menu's also. the extras don't bother me too much, but i would like it to be almost an identical copy of the dvd. I am still new to dvd's and these security features. i know i will catch on quickly, but i just need someone to guide me in the right direction. i know that i need to compress and whatnot, cuz the whole movie might not fit on the whole dvd. i would atleast like the title menu, n movie, n whatnot, a fully functional dvd. for some reason i am not satisfied and i feel like my movies r bootleg =X . when i pop the dvd in, it just starts the movie. but when i re-authorize the dvd, i cannot use the menu because of some security bullshit, and it isnt "re-authorizing" if i am using the main title menu. if you could assist me fully backing up a dvd, or anyone has help, please post. sorry for my ignorance.

When you reauthor with DVD Shrink you are basically deleting the menu, so it is not there...I don't know what you are talking about with the security thing.

If you want to keep everything, go right ahead. Do a Full Disk backup...highlight your menu then on the right side in the drop down menu select custom ratio to unlock the slider bar...move the slider all the way to the left. Do the same with special features, this will apply maximum compression to the menu and special features leaving the quality as high as possible for the main movie...which is what you really want to see anyway.

    Hi,
I'm trying to burn a copy of the movie Anastasia.
Well, when I open DVD Decrypter, I'm prompted with a message that says
    Unable to initialise ElbyCDIO!
Reason: The specified module could not be found
    You need to install CloneDVD.
    Visit http://www.elby.ch to download it.
Alternatively, try changing the 'I/O interface'.

Then, under the source, it says "No Devices detected". What could be the problem?

This is the option for ripping with DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD doing the sidestepping for you. In options reset to default and see if your problems subside.

Open DVDD...go to tools, settings...hit the big button that says defaults and then OK.

    Hi Bry005,

In most cases, when you re-Author any DVD you will delete the opening menu where you have the choice of viewing deleted scenes, main movie, bloopers, etc.
Using a program such as Nero's Recode2 will open the movie straight away and give you your surfing menu BUT not your opening menu.

Using DVD Shrink as LOCOENG has mentioned will allow you to backup the entire DVD AND, UNLESS it's an extremely large movie, you'll have little or no trouble fitting it onto a single DVD. The most you'll have to do is to "untick" unwanted foreign audio OR Director's comments in order for the entire thing to fit on your single-sided DVD.

    Cheers,

I have about 30 DVDs -- bought from stores.
My usual player is Microsoft Media Player
I downloaded region-free software and played two of the disks using it. It wasn't too satisfactory so I deleted it.
Since then my computer does not recognise either of the 2 disks in question -- they just son't appear in 'My Computer'. They play perfectly well in my neighbour's computer.
All my other disks play normally on my computer.
Any thoughts? I'd be grateful for a solution.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Pete
    Thanks for prompt reply.
I downloaded Power DVD as suggested. Same problem. Plays most of my dvds but when I try one of the problem disks it says 'no disk in drive d:'. And the problem disks still play perfectly in my neighbour's computer.

It seems that MY computer just does not recognise these two 'maverick' disks. Some flag in the registry?? This only a suggestion as I know nothing about the innards of the registry!

Newbie here, so hope i'm not asking dumb, repetative questions. Just started backing up my DVDs yesterday, and was successfull. So my questions really is what to do with the files created in the process. I've read through a lot of the posts and realize that the DVD backup may not play or work in a year or so. So do i need to keep both the ripped files, which i used DVD Decrypter to get? Or do I just need to keep the ISO file, which i believe was created by DVD Shrink. Those were the only two software i used. The files take up a lot of room, so would love to be able to get rid of all the uneccessary ones. Please advise. Thanks!

Unless you've got an ultra large HDD or you just aren't going to backup alot of movies, I would delete all the files created by the two programs you mentioned. You always have the original to make another backup from if your backup becomes unusable. If you want to keep one, the ISO should be smaller than the VIDEO_TS folder.
