I put the new PCLinuxOX (2009.1) on a spare P4 machine the other day, works ok but haven't got around to configuring/playing with it yet, problably won't for ages as don't need any more machines at the moment

Yeah, I love the simplicity of configuring Arch, but keep getting frustrated when things break occasionally, with the typical solution being to wait for other packages to get back in sync. I'd still run it on my lappy, but for the girlfriend's sake and out of laziness keep Ubuntu on the server and her laptop. Should probably run Debian testing, but Ubuntu works ok for now.

The machine that was refusing to have anything to do with broken dragonfly.. theres a tale. FreeBSD went on there in 40 minutes.. with the little useful hint of remembering pkg_add nano and pkg_add gdm

This time it worked flawlessly.. from the dvd. They seem to have done a lot of work in the last year or so making the installation way more user friendly

I have moved on to another project now .. solaris9 .. XD

On that note i've pasted a few hints in my shoutbox, and i did intend to dig out more detailed info but have been driving half way round the country today so it's movie time instead, am sure you'll figure out what you need from the shoutbox

After a lot of searching about I eventually managed to find the required rf driver for the realtek nic.. realtek.. as usual don't support it.

Everything is sort of up and running now.. netscape is hanging with 100% cpu then eventually crashing. Instead of trying to fix that I'm going to slam a more up to date browser on it.

Cracking learning curve.. I think my unix skills just went up about 4 levels.
