I've just bought a Sony DVD/R/RW and was branded as a DW-U10AUX, manufactured date March 2003, firmware revision 1.1D, 8 meg buffer. I have been reading all the posts regarding flashing the firmware to make it a DR-500A, but I am not sure if it is a wise decision on my part. Does anyone have any recommendations wether or not I should do this flash?
I also own a Sony DW-U10A with firmware 1.1d.When everything is functioning great, why take the chance? The combination, DW-U10A+Nero+Ritek, works great for me.
I have a DWU-10a burner ver 1.1d and I cannot get either the DRU-500 or the DWU-10a firmware to update, it just states no valid drives could be found. Win XP SP1, AMD Athlon XP 1900, Gigabyte 7ZXE motherboard. DVD is connected as a master on the secondary channel of the standard IDE controller. Picks up firmware in clone dvd. Not too bothered at the moment as it does everything I require, but they obviously write these firmwares for a reason, so would prefer to be on the lastest version.
I have just purchased a Sony DW-10A with Firmware version 1.1d. I have downloaded Firmware version 1.1e. Is there anything in that update which would make it worthwhile updating ? Thanks
I do not know if Firmware v1.1e is 'Official' or not. I found it in one of the messages in this Forum, routed to it, and downloaded. By the way, to avoid confusion the Unit is a Dw-U10A, not as I first wrote. Incidentally, all the information seems to be in Taiwanese (?). If anyone can help me with my original query, do they know of a location where the information is in English, please ? Thanks.
To KenAsh: I can read Chinese. Can you provide the address of the site where you downloaded the fireware, may be I can do some translation for all of us who own a DW-U10A.
http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/Firmware2F/Instruction/500Aupdate.html This is the english version of the 500 instructions change 500 for 10a and they are the same instructions
To Feng: The Firmware url I found is below. It was in a post in this forum in May. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1504 Regards
To JamieH: Thanks for English Version of instructions for firmware update. I am holding off installing same in the hope that some kind person may indicate if it was produced for some important reason. Regards
I just recieved my dw-u10a fw 1.1d. Using Memorex 4X DVD+R it only writes at 2.4X. Can anyone tell me if they have the same prob. and if so, will upgrading to 1.1e or the 500a fw allow me write at 4X
Hi, I have a DW-U10A which i've flashed to be a 500 with 2.0f firmware. What i'd like to know, is what media have people had sucess writing at 2x or preferably 4x speed with? e.g. datawrite, Bulkpac, TDK etc.? I've tried Datawrite Red 4x discs and they didn't work for me at all (2x or 4x!). I tried some unbranded 2x discs and they worked great at 2x..... Any suggestions? Cheers, Kev
Hi. New to the forum so please be patient. I've just bought studio 8 and a DWU10A flashed it with 2.0f to a DRU-500A. Is there a nack in getting the program to recognise the burner?...or is this the joy of Pinnacle/Sony. Any help very much appreciated Thanks
Iv'e got the Sony U10a drive and Datawrite Red disks are no problem at 4X. Did have problem with Datawrite dvd-rw (1X only). but think it was just a bad batch. No reason for me to flash to DRU-500A and risk voiding warranty.
please ,can anyone send me the file to convert the 500a back to the dw-u10a....the japanese link doesnt work anymore.....please send it to xentagz@planet.nl please help me.... xentagz
TO mynutts and shkwav: My dw-u10a v1.1f only records DVD+R (4 speed) at 2.4x so I don't know which firmware you have to flash to to get it to write at 4 speed. I have written to DVD-R (4x) Datawrite red at what appears to be 4-speed. HOwever, when I worked it out, it was actually 3 speed! I have no intention in flashing it though - if it ain't broke and all that. I beleive the latest firmware allows you to recorc DVD+R at 4 speed, but I'm not willing to try
Here is a link to convert from the 500a back to a u10a: http://isweb44.infoseek.co.jp/computer/type-ive/files/500A_to_10A [1.1c].zip I have not used it so let me know if it works. Sorry, that link doesn't work. If you copy the whole link from http.. to the end of ...[1.1c].zip ,it will work.
i recently purchased a dw-u10a which had a manufacture date of april 2003. its firmware version is 1.1d. i understand that to upgrade to the most up-to-date firmware of 2.0f, i first have to convert my dw-u10a (1.1d) to dru-500a (1.0g) [bold]http://type-ive.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/DW-U10A_to_DRU-500A.zip[/bold] then upgrade to dru-500a (2.0f) [bold] http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru500adwn.htm[/bold] my questions are: 1) has anyone with a similar dw-u10a with a (1.1d) firmware successfully upgraded to dru-500a (2.0f) with the steps i outlined above? 2) if you have, have you also successfully recorded on a dvd+r (plus) 4x media at 4x speed with the dru-500a (2.0f) upgrade? out of the box, the dw-u10a records dvd-r (minus)at 4x speed. 3) any tips or words of wisdom for the upgrade, aside from the "very important" rule of not having any other programs open during the upgrade) -- so as not to ruin the drive (e.g. disabling DMA)? thank you for any assistance you may extend on these matters.
