bit of reading on that burner with that firmware also go to part CHOOSE RECORDER check if your drive is STATUS ok, but that in itself doesnt mean much http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=13809
Yes, Rotary, that's where I got the firmware (cdrinfo). I tried reflashing the 1.03c first, then did the 1.04c, both with no luck, before putting on the 3.01 I found on the CDRInfo Board. I have tried putting the max speed at 4,6,8 and 12. It has not seemed to make much difference. I can certainly try it at 4 again. When it does burn, it reports in Nero to be burning at slower than the selected max speed, sometimes down to 1.1x. I tried that ForceASPI last week (see above). I guess I can try it again.
Tried burning @ 4x and it failed again. Went to "choose burner" and it does show the burner as "ok" Ran aspichk & here are the results: G0143: ***************************************************************** LOG0144: Starting ASPICHK installer on Thu May 15 18:44:54 2008 ASPICHK0438: OS = Windows NT (5.01.2600) UPGRADE1004: c:\windows\system32\wnaspi32.dll dated 05/08/2008 01:27:52, 45056 bytes. So....what do I do? Going back to Gwendolin's post - is this a case of a drive needing service? Is it worth servicing a 3 year old drive or is it a better bet to just get a new one?
try the drive on another pc to see if does same thing but other then that get a new drive as they're about $29Can plus.
above sounds a good idea, but i cant let go of your burn does get so far through, disc code is seen also but! not in the toc/mid code section/reading. also try useing everything from main C:\ drive not spare HD. spare HD has DMA off remember (bad transfering speed etc). and if just burning use imgburn to test as i have seen nero not burn and imgburn burn ok with same pc setup.
I had tried burning everything from the C: drive, and it only worked one of the three times I tried (last week). I gave in tonight & bought a new burner. Have burned 4 DVDs in a row without any issues - its been months since I've been able to do that. Started with files on the C drive then switched to some files on the D drive. The drive is a Pioneer DVR-1910LS. (I bought a Pioneer for my last computer as an upgrade and didn't have any issues with it. I'm sure there are a lot of opinions regarding HW choices, but I went with my "it worked last time" theory). Thank you all for all the help trying to get this working. I'm sure now that it was the drive all along, although it was probably compounded by the driver, DMA, etc. issues.
