Click on Start for Windows desktop. Goto programs. Find Accessories. Find Paint. Click on paint. If you've got Microsoft Operating System then you've got paint. It comes with it. Go back up this page and re-read the postings slowly. They've posted everything you need to assist you. There's enough of us here. We'll stick with you until your problem is solved.
you do have paint!, paint is as standard as windows gets between us guys we're after media info to see if you have the wrong/or crap discs, and i myself am trying to make sure all the basics are setup correctly, as the media is just a part of the overall picture
Okay, I got some help and figured it out, although I don't know how to actually put the images here, but here are the links: http://img126.echo.cx/my.php?image=neroinfotool19pj.jpg http://img20.echo.cx/my.php?image=neroinfotool23zv.jpg http://img20.echo.cx/my.php?image=neroinfotool34tr.jpg
@minouche - according to picture in your first link, the drive is only a CD Burner, not a DVD Burner. Do another screenshot of your DVD burner, you can use nerotool to do this, just go the drive icon and click on the dropdown box at top left corner. Then we can see the version of firmware for that drive. However i can see in the 2nd image you posted, your DVD Burner is an 'IDE1008' drive, and DMA is off for that drive. First of all try this to sort out the DMA issue - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html Once that is done, i have recently been reading (not very good) things about this particular drive, see here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193674 However this is the drive you have so we need to check all the other stuff to get you up to date. As for your 3rd picture you posted, download ASPI 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm and run it to install ASPI drivers. PS I'm still not 100% whether ASPI is needed in XP, a guy on another thread doesn't think it's needed. However no matter how many times i read up on it, i'm still none the wiser. I've always installed it and it doesn't make things worse, plus i never read about installing it making problems so that's good enough for me. ps if you want to edit your post that has the 3 picture links, you can show them on here just be adding at the end. But you need to do it in lowercase (i've used uppercase just to show you what to do. Or easier still, edit the post and then look further up the page and there are tips there for doing this, and bold or quote text etc.. i'd ask you to install a program to check the dvd discs you've been using but as you're using more than one make i think we'll leave that 'til after you've got this stuff up to date @fancymojo - see here -http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/197427#1063503
Whoops- I forgot to go to the DVD drive on Nero InfoTool. Here's the info on my DVD drive: imghttp://img300.echo.cx/my.php?image=neroinfotool16ok.jpg/img I'll try the other stuff now.
I got the DMA on without any trouble. When I tried to download aspi, I got a window telling me to unzip it, then nothing happened after that. There is a file now called aspi on my hard drive, with all kinds of files but nothing that really tells me how to open or install it. When I open NeroInfoTool, it tells me aspi is still not installed.
i dont think aspi is the problem. i have xp and nero tells me the samething. so i downloaded it but i havent installed it because i havent had any problems (if it aint broke dont fix it) but just in case of problems i have it.try this site it explains aspi drivers pretty good http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm
@minouche - the latest firmware revision for your drive would appear to be '0060' - http://www.btc.com.tw/drivers/zip/dvd_dual/IDE1008_0060_MCU.EXE - [bold]but make sure you know what's involved/what to do first[/bold]
no worries, a bit more digging and i found it. Have a quick read thru, it's one of the most straightforward firmware guides i've read in a while - http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/Howto/WinFirmware/winfirmware.html Basically it looks simple enough - you run the exe file mentioned in my last reply, then reboot and i guess run the nero info-tool again just to check the firmware version is 0060. Then i gotta re-read the post to remind myself what the original problem was as i've forgotten!
Thanks! I've updated the firmware- is there anything else I should do now, or should I go ahead and try burning again?
@minouche - if you're happy you covered everything i guess it's time to try a burn.. good luck and keep us posted, good or bad..
download dvdinfopro (free) and do a media info check (2nd icon from top left in dvdinfopro and paste the results here. Sounds like we need to trek down the media route next if you're happy you've updated the firmware.. i assume it's the fuji you're talking about here (it's always possible you have some fake fuji)... (and keep in the back of your mind that this drive 'might' be a dud) - quote from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193674 - - http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=84
I wasn't able to get DVDinfopro for free, so I used DVDIdentifier. Here's what I got: http://img177.echo.cx/my.php?image=dvdidentifier16uo.jpg If the drive is a dud, would it make sense that it worked fine for a while then quit?
minouche I asked you for this a week ago. You got the best of the best in media. It can't be that. And yes I'm still following
well short of saying the drive is crap, i'm stumped and have completely forgotten what the original problem was. What is strange is that piccy of dvd identifier is suggesting new firmware is needed, though 0060 was the latest i could find. I throw in the towel
