DiRect, I got sidetracked, sorry. I just bought the Philips DVP 642 player which handles all formats including Divx and MPEG 4 with progressive scan for HDTV. It was only 65.00 at Wal-Mart, several other stores have it also for the same price, Target, etc.It also has a BIOS that can be upgraded via a download that you burn on CD. Ya might wanna check into it. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]..Dell Media4600, XP,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz,512MB,280HDw/8MB,17" flat panel,AIO-A920,8xDVD-ROM,integrated 5.1 audio, HPdc4000,PlextorPX-708UF,LiteOn SOHW 832S dual layer[/small]
Bigorange, I meant I was not disparaging Pete's skills as a troubleshooter, as I can clearly see he has a ton to offer and is to be commended for his efforts. I probably just poked my head in when Pete was having a bad day as I saw a "trend" in two different threads and anyone who does PC support long enough -knows- the majority of questions have been asked before, will be asked again, and as much as we want people to learn to think, read, and spend the time to solve their own problems (as it truly is more rewarding that way) I for one know that for the most part, it isn't going to happen (and I am partly gladdened by this, as if everyone solved their own problems, I'd be out of a job). Now, I'd better duck as I'm sure their will be other Pete supporters clamoring for my head, as well as Pete himself, to whom I extend my hand in friendship and contrition.
Oh, and didn't you think my dogwalking story was a good attempt at being light? I still can't stop laughing.
brucedl, yes I did like your dogwalking story. I was just standing up for my good buddy Pete(not that he is incapable of doing it for himself)and you are correct in that most people never read the threads and we do answer the same questions over and over and over. Pete has gotten around that somewhat by having some pat answers without having to type them over and over and over again as evidenced by the statement "It was a prewritten piece designed to entice Newbies to stay and help in A/D." Your hand is accepted on my part and my guess is Pete will agree, he's a pretty easy going guy. BTW, welcome to AD.
Hi, I didn't mean to be rude in my last post. I know pete's a nice guy, and I have defended him in a thread against someone. Regards, DiRect
DiRect, I saw that post by you and thank you for it - brucedl, If you believe I was being "heavy handed" it is too bad - I have been teaching for 38 years and there are always pple who feel it is not their job to crack a book or to take a test. I've even had students try to force me to certify them because they showed up for class - Theses "Einsteins" have to be guided to the cols reality of life. I suggested what "The Boss", dRD has posted in the front of each forum although I did it in a much, much nicer way. In one case I guided the Newbie to locate his answers, at the same time, I answered his question to boot but he was too stupid to see the answer so I was rewarded by name-calling and verbal abuse. I would suggest that you re-read the posts you're so upset about and if you still have questions, PM me with the links and I'll discuss my posts with you - Cheers, Pete
