DVD-RB and AutoQMatEnc

Just finished doing Pirates of the Caribbean, the first one, using ProCoder2, with a little help from my friends, and it came out fantastic. Compression for the full first disk was at 64%, took total of 166 minutes fom start to finish, which would probably be slower than CCE, but pic looks really good. ProCoder is a definite winner for high compression in my opinion

 

I agree, since the start of this thread, I have been using ProCoder2 more and more and it has yet to disappoint. Thank you all for contributing to this thread, it has become far more helpful to me than I could have originally anticipated.

Comming from someone that has used cce for a long time this means alot.

Does this mean you will be using only procoder from now on?

The extra time that procoder takes is well justified by the extra quality you get IMO.

 

I am definitely going to be using this program a lot. Yes it does take a little longer, but I just started RB and then went off had dinner, walked the dogs and came back and the movie was through and ready to burn. Yes RB is not for the person who is in a hurry, but it still is the best for quality and so I am willing to invest that time. Did not know what I was missing until the comparison shots were put up, so thanks ebega, pazzini and Mort for showing me the error of my ways.

 

Great post. You convinced me to try Procoder with DVD RB. Now the question is how much is it? Where can I download a trial?

There is an express version for around $60 but it is no way near as good as procoder2, from what I have heard.

Now to my Newbie questions

- What is the differance between a encoder and transcoder?
- Is RB PRO only able to compress DVD's to DVDR size or can you say go to 2 gig?
- If you had an HTP with 1 terrabyte of storage, and you wanted all your DVD's on the hard drive...how would you encode them (leave them as is, compress them to 4.5 gig....compress them further?)
- And what software would you use on the option you selected in question 3?

There is what is called a hidden setting in rb. You can insert the line TargetSectors=xxxxxxx in the .ini file under [OPTIONS], xxxxxxx equiling the target size you want your target to be. An empty dvd5 has aprox. 2,295,104 sectors. I forget what the default setting is but can find it if need be.

Sorry the lasy part was confusing.

It's pretty basic question. If you had 1 TB of storage on a HTPC, how much would you comress your DVD's? I want to put all my DVD's on it, but will need to compress them to fit. Just wanted people's opinions on what they would do (Shrink them to 4.5gig or smaller?)

 

I suppose it depends on how many movies you have, as hermes_vb posted you can use RatDVD it will compress the file way down.

I have DVD rebuilder pro and use CCE basic in it. Is the Procoder2 you guys are talking about here different to the Procoder included in the encoding settings of DVD rebuilder? Or is it the same product? If it isnt the same where can i get hold of it and how much is it?

Procoder is included in the RB settings so you can setup the program to use as your encoder with RB. You need to have the program in order to use it. Procoder2 is an expensive program but Procoder Express can be had for 60.00. I should think this one would work with RB, as CCE Basic which is the same price works. I use Procoder2 so not sure about the Express version.
