DVD RW won't read/play DVDs, but will read/play CDs

Thanks Rotary, I tried that driver last night but it was just a graphics driver and installing it didn't help anything from what I can tell.

In your XP Device Manager screenshot, you've got tabs for Primary Channel & Secondary Channel. In Vista, I don't have those. Here's what I see when I click on IDE Channel Properties:

Here's what it looks like when I go through the Update Driver process for the Controller. Where you had a choice of drivers between the Standard and the NVIDIA one you installed; I only have one choice.

 

hehe whats happened to the size of this thread? lol

ok it does look like you running on bog standard defaults need to find a driver for this, but how i have no idea?
