Hmmm.I think the whole issue of what is better visually is totally subjective. Each to thier own, and you must try them all to see what suits YOU.I have found this to be identical to watching a tv...far too personal to say one is better than the other unless there are obvious and marked differances.eg im after a new tv and the recommended dogs bollocks tvs by the press i find to be shyte...without spending overĀ£1500 nothing gets even close to my sony kva2132u.My friend disagrees....he cant tell the diff between my tv and his beko 32" wide.So in respect of ripping/encoding/burning programs, decisions boil down to speed and ease of use.merry xmas

i guess your right it is kind of subjective, and i guess the reason why i didnt see any "macro blockiness" is because my DVD players sharpness level (which i never checked, was at LOW, and when i turned it up to high, TT had some blockiness)- that said, i noticed that most of my DVD2ONE copies were slightly blocky, but my NERO RECODE 2 copy of League of extraodiary gentlemen came out fine.

Gent's, check this site out for comparisons between a Transcoder (DVD Shrink 2.3 & 3.05b) and an Encoder (TMPGEnc CBR & VBR). Awesome!!! is all I can say.

I actually found out what da hell 'macro-blocks' is all about in this website.

Even thought still picture comparison is not an ideal method for comparing MPEG-2 streams, the site shows my point.

And you can be sure that Cinemacraft is even better than TMPGEnc.

well I am no movie critic but I use dvd shrink, dvd decryptor(only if I have to),and burn with nero. Both Mrs. askyew and myself cant tell any difference between the original and the copy. This includes Lord of the Rings on one dvd (movie only, dolby 5.1,english). We watched it on 36" high def with sony player

Except for InstantCopy 8's problem of undershooting the destination target size now and then, the resultant video is the best, with no blockiness. Yes it takes longer but that's cuz it does a better job.
