    Clonedvd2 sounds interesting............however, the free updates for ONLY A YEAR have me worried. CloneCD and AnyDVD have LIFETIME updates.

    I and all that I know that’s been using clonedvd2 since it came out are still using the same license..got mine in (2003).

    note burn speeds can be selected in clonedvd2.also been playing with a external liteon,model 1673..works good...

    I don't have Any DVD .. I never let windows take control of anything on my computer. If it wasn't for Everquest I wouldn't have a single computer in this house with windows on it. They would all be linux or anything besides windows.

    I found a rather large number of codecs loading, and I found some .dll files that I am going to have to look up to see what they go to. I don't know if it makes any difference in the recording but I have a Much older ASPI layer on that machine. I have Divx Pro and All in one codecs loading and some other stuff I am not sure what it is.

    I am just waiting till Transgaming gets Linux and EQ to play nice together and then no more Windoze.

    @Ireland

    Does this mean you have "updated" using the same license? My understanding was that you would have to shell out again to be updated.

    Thank you Ireland, that is good to know.

    You have used the new DvdXPlatinum as well. This is on the shelves at Staples in Canada for a lot cheaper than on the net. Mind you, it is not paired with VideoVault. Does this have any contol of burner speed? Is it just the same as V5 without the ripper?

    Hmmmmm, with backup disc $174.79 CAD on the net. Sells at Staples for $99.99 CAD. Staples also sells XPress, and XGold.

    As far as not doing Sony's, I already have AnyDvd. What is the quality like in XPlatium compared to CloneDvd2?

    Xsoftware also has a try before buy. What I liked about DvdXCopy was the simplicity. It does lack in the reauthoring ability, and burn speed. I tried to split my Soprano's and got "too big for disc". It has only 1 titleset/disc.

    As NeroExpress came with my burner, I'll give Shrink a whirl. If I don't like, I'll look into CloneDvd2.

    Thanks for input!

    I tried doing a TV Series disk and got the same thing. Ended up using CloneDVD and doing it. That is one thing about Clone it re-authors well and you can control the burn speed. You can also split and retain menus on both disks a plus when doing TV Series.

    Thanks for all the replies to this topic so far and for sharing your experiences and views of Version 5.

    It is very much appreciated, yet what do baldbear and ireland especially think about Version 5 for now and the future?

    Is it still worth the hassle to keep the program and see what international.com come up with, or is it going to be better to give it back and get a refund?

    As I've said, I know that using Platinum RF 4.0.4.15 and AnyDVD has worked with all the movies that I've backed up so far, yet with the exception for the ones that I wanted to do on dual-layer, I used DVD Decrypter in ISO Read/Write modes without any problems whatsoever, and if I remember correctly, someone has mentioned before about DVD Decrypter handling the layer break better than Nero.

    I had a disc that I copied using Nero and it froze on playback at the layer break. I then read the forums here on AD, and then discovered how to use DVD Decrypter to do dual-layer burns - so no problems on that one!!!

    So, what do you all think of Version 5 knowing that copying can be done using Platinum RF 4.0.4.15 and AnyDVD for DVD-5's and DVD Decrypter for DVD-9's (dual-layer)?

    What does Version 5 do as “ extra “ that Platinum RF, AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter and others are not able to do?

    Any views and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    @Happy37

    I have only been testing Ver.5 for about a week and have not tested it on anything rough yet. But find for the straight backup using express it performs well, it is fast and I am partial to the quality, it comes out sharp and clear and if you use the zoom on it the picture remain good. However, this is using movie only. The problem I find is with the reauthoring part. It just picks up on the Title, and if you have Series Disks I was unable to split. On 21 Jump Street it would pick up on Title 1 which broke down to over 3 hours, but it would not pick up on the individual titles so I could split. Had the same problem with Eleanor and Franklin the mini series. If I used the Platinum for just a movie, it would pick up the menu along with the Title and I could not get rid of it unless I re-authored in another program, which defeats the purpose. I will be testing it with some stronger protected movies and see how it goes. For the money they are charging it should work a little better. Plus, the price is till tto high for the program.

    What I think of V5 now is that it will not do what it claims to do, as for the future of it.... I have no clue.

    Nothing.

    Thanks for the reply - what do you think that I should do now?

    Leave it and wait for international.com to come back with whatever, or return Version 5 for a refund?

    Thanks

    baldbear, thanks for being honest about dvd x copy ,being a mod and all .i kinda think of x copy this way

    its kind of like your first love ,it was the first and special but its over and never going to be quite the same again .so you try to revist it and its just not what you expected.

    theres just to many other good programs out there for x copy to make a come back .and price wise you just cant beat CloneDVD 2 with anydvd

    I agree XCopy was good in its day, but it is past. If you just want a speedy one click express backup it works fine, for movies that do not have the newer protection. However if you want to do anything else it does not measure up. IMHO AnyDVD and CloneDVD are the best bargain going and show the most versatility. Unless, Xcopy can make a program that can do the things that the slysoft combo can do they will not survive. Just my two cents.
