Do you know the trick where you wait for the [bold]insert disc/cancel burn[/bold] screen in dvdxcopy, sneakily move the files out of the temporary directory and then cancel the burn? This leaves you with the files that dvdxcopy was just about to burn to disc.

In theory you could do that for both disc one and two and then run dvd2one in film only mode to get rid of all the warnings and menus. There would be no compression of the movie at all, but it would be on two discs (yuck).

    OR..

Am I right in thinking that after you run a film through dvd2one in full disc mode you are then able to skip past the warnings if you want? I think this is called user prohibition or something.

It only looses quality if you compress it, remove all extras and menus and it might not. its not noticeable even with my projector projecting 60" screen at 1024x768

I used DVD-Shrink for the first time yesterday, and I'm pretty impressed by it. I wanted to fit a DVD-9 onto a DVD-5, and retain as much as possible. I didn't want to take out the menu because I think it's a unique characteristic of DVDs. So basically I did minimal compression to the main movie. Maximal compression to main menu and extras. The results:
    1) The movie (animatrix) looks excellent. Flawless.
    2) a very choppy WB/Viacom logo animation (about 7 seconds). I can live with it.
    3) Perfect menu.
    4) Extra commentaries and interviews were decent, but not flawless.
    5) English language/subtitle only.

The movie is Animatrix, which is episodic. I have wasted 5 blanks trying to copy it with DVD X Copy/Xpress. It can't be done. I am convinced that I did eveything humanly possible.

Anyway, I think DVD Shrink is the coolest, most feature-filled, DVD ripper available. I love it.

Slipping it onto two DVDs is a bit like saying, well, I can't afford a Porsche to drive at 150mph, so I will drive one way at 100mph, then back at 50mph in my Vauxhall Vectra.

    Porsche is more fun, btw.

    Paul.

PS : No excuse for going off topic, but I am a moderator and don't care (not true, I do care, but I wouldn't want any lowly users knowing ;-)

PPS : The treatment is going well.....

    ...I will keep you posted.

Two disks are not that bad, the only excersie some americans get, is geting off the couch and puting the next disc in. Oh wait you can buy 5 disc and 300 disc DVD players. Oh well no more excerse.

two disks is not that bad, expecially if you are a quality nut.

seems like we can all agree to disagree...
i have been using dvdshrink lately and really like the ability to compress at different levels...sometimes i can avoid shrinking the movie much at all..so i guess im doing some single discs now whenever i can shrink only by 15 percent on the movie...

    prisoner...like the maiden reference...
    who are you?
you are number 2, who is number 1?

agenda, don't mean to get too off topic. But Maiden didn't create that into. Iron Maiden is amazing and the Number of the beast album I think is the best. But the Prisoner was a british Tv show in the 1960's created and mostly writen by Patrick McGoohan. Amazing show, but the Maiden song is good representation of the idea.
Back on topic, DVDXcopy express 3.0 is good at compression, but the ability to select compression in DVDShink is added plus. I still lean to the advantage of the lazy man one click and its done method. So I am with you for DVDxcopy or newer DVDxpress.
