what the setup my dad has, it is more geared toward contesting. which is basically seeing who can get the most points by talking to the most people. its definately not cb though, this setup goes all the way up the radio wave spectrum. he can talk to pretty much anywhere, china, russia, etc... he has also talked to the space station and shuttle. then of course you can do morse code instead of voice, which makes it more interesting. other than that it started out as a way to communicate in times of emergency.

@aus when did you make an exceutive decision to make a movie, and how come i havent heard the plans yet? lol we will figure it out when you come back i spose.

i do remember, but me and matt found a better place in desoto when we were there in the day. its a big hill a couple streets over from the stairs. no stairs, but just as steep. less chance of getting our heads cracked open.

@gerry yes that would be a ham radio setup.

my black firestik II 3-foot antenna came today. during the installation, i messed up a wire, so now i have to wait until the morning to get to a hardware store and get a replacement.

arg...i'll post pictures once i have it done tomorrow.

okay, yeah, the new antenna mount isn't anywhere near strong or stable enough. and there's not a big enough magnet made for my firestik. and i'm most definitely not drilling on the body of my car.

and so, i'm back to the old antenna. i'm going to return the firestik and just live with what i've got until i have more access to my truck, which will get full 7 foot steel whip. :)

there's a trio-magnet out there, but it's really just not worth it. i don't want to risk any new paint scratches, anyway.

One way to prevent scratches, is to put a couple layers of saran wrap (clear plastic wrap) between antenna and the paint!

    Merry Christmas

that's a pretty good idea. so far, i'd just been using a heavy coat of wax to save my paint.
