i see in that tut for building hdd, there is one more step then i have done previous, at beginning, press 3, type unlockhd -a, instructions i had, didnt do this at beginning, just at end type lockhd -a, but then again, instructions were for a brand new hard drive, not a already locked hard drive, so i will give this a shot!

well, i give up, nothing works, i guess i will have to get him to buy a mod chip so i can rebuild him a new hard drive from scratch! i believe this hard drive is toast, only thing i can think of, when i use the xboxhdm, it states disabled for any options, only thing i can see is option 6! oh well! thanks for all your help return!

another thing, when i booted from cd rom with xboxhdm, it would show errors when trying to read hard drive, then when options came up only option i could do was 6, it there would tell me serial number of hard drive, hdd password and key, states its locked and so on!
so i really at a loss right now, i really dont want to tell the guy he has to buy a mod chip and theres nothing else i can do!

another thing, i mentioned about tsop flahsing, what is this and will it help me in any way shape or form??

you have to unlock the hdd to use xboxhdm.
ftphelp does not know much about pc.

i found this, i am going to give it a shot, see what happens, what do i have to loose at this point!

"...when you don't know the password.
I found a method to do this, and I thought I might share it with you...
    1. Find a Windows XP (or 2000, probably) machine with IDE. Plug the
locked drive into the power, but not the IDE, while the computer is off.
    2. Power on. It'll boot normally (my computer wouldn't start with a
locked drive in the IDE chain).
    3. Plug in the IDE, then use Device Manager to look for new devices
until it finds the drive. Don't worry, it won't fry anything.
    4. Use LiveInfo ( http://www.team-assembly.com/downloads/ ) to find the
    drive's password. Print it out.
    5. Go to DOS and use HDUNLOCK
Enter the password for the drive. It'll say that it succeeded even if
it's the wrong password, so make sure you put it in correctly.
    6. Use HDDISABL (same archive) and enter the same password. It will
give you an error if you have the wrong password.
    Et voila.
This is not my method; I found it searching through the xbox-scene
forums. I can't remember who I got it from.
I haven't tried it on any other hardware than my own, and only once.
There's a chance it was a fluke, and I'll not tempt fate by locking it
with a garbage password again... But you probably have a number of
drives you thought were paperweights. Give this a shot, it might work.

okay, i followed last post tut, it picked up my locked hard drive, told me it was locked and also gave me the right serial number and a calculated password! now i saved this calculated password to eeprom, burnt a new bootable dvd with xboxhdm, when i run it, it picks up the hard drive and tells me hard drive is locked and options will be disabled, i try running unlockhd, when this happens i put in this password, and it says done, but in order for me to start xboxhdm again, i have to reboot, and i believe this just locks that hard drive again!
with this new calculated password i got and saved to eeprom like it said to do, is there any chance i can just build a new hard drive with this new bootable dvd i made?
