Binkie I've tried what you said: When decryptor tries to burn I get the following error: Failed to Write Sectors 0 - 31 - Power Calibration Area Error and then a whole bunch of: Retry Failed - Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format I've looked around the forum and this points to the media. I was using verbatum DL because I heard that was the best. So I appear to have a good copy on my Hard drive and no way to burn it. I also tried Nero and get the following: could not perform start of Disk-at-once Here is a bit of the log: 9:42:13 PM #22 SPTI -1106 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 290 E: CdRom1: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1106) Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) Sense Code: 0x73 Sense Qual: 0x03 CDB Data: 0xBF 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 0C 00 00 Sense Area: 0x70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 81 00 73 03 Buffer x079b3e00: Len xc 0x00 0A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 1E 6B 90 9:42:13 PM #23 Text 0 File DVDPlusDualLayer.cpp, Line 642 L0 Data Zone Capacity not set. I have noticed that my DMA is not on. I am unable to set it. I have followed this guide but it has not helped. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 It keeps reverting back to PIO only Any idea how to force this to DMA?
@MrBabar Here's the causes for power calibration errors: (from nero) -Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version. - Try another brand of media - Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal. - Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master. Now your media should be good -verbs are the best esp for dual layer imo. Do you have a nvidia graphics on this pc?
I will disconnect my CD ROM drive and use my Sony DVD RW drive only. Set it as Master and see how it goes. I am concerned about the PIO only setting. I am unable to get my Sony DVD drive to DMA. From reading up it seems DMA is just a way to bypass the CPU. I don't understand why PIO wouldn't work, it would just use more of the CPU and burn much slower. I have gone to the registry and tried to get the drive to use DMA but nothing I do seems to help. The drive always goes back to PIO. I have checked the web site for Sony DRU-820A firmware. There isn't any updated firmware so I guess I am all set there. I'll buy some different media, maybe verbatum just has trouble with my drive. At this point I could have bought backups of every DVD I've ever wanted!!! You can't put a price on knowledge I guess. Plus I find it interesting so I keep pushing on. However, I am a month into this burning thing and have yet to burn one DVD successfully. LOL I am beginning to hate The Shield Season 1
@MrBabar The pio mode is much slower and can interfer with the transfer rate. If you have a nvidia driver you won't be able to turn dma back on by the guide. That's the last thing I can think of why you can't get back in dma mode. Yep priceless!!!
I put the DVD Sony DRU-820A drive as master and disconnected my other drive. Making it the only drive on the IDE cable. This finally worked!!!! It could not share the power. Looking back at it now I wonder if that was the problem with my LG DVD drive as well. (I swapped that out because it copied and played poorly) I am a little surprised the instructions on the drive installation don't mention this. Anywho I am able to record now, unfortunately I only have a few days left to actually try CloneDVD and AnyDVD to see if I want to buy them. From what I learned so far it seems like 90% of the DVD's out there can be burned with free software. However you occasionally hit that %10 that you will need something else. Any DVD and clone DVD are extra tools for that %10 Thanks for all of your help.
@MrBabar Glad to hear your up and running!! Hey at least you learned alot and can teach others from your experience! As for the free software follow alkohol's guides and it should be 100%. I use anydvd and clonedvd but I also use the others to.
