I always use CS, that article looks to be 3 to 6 years old, ancient history when talking computers. And to the OP try some -R discs.
It's an old article. I saw it or something simialar a long time back. It doesn't really matter how the PC is set up as long as the same method is used throughout. I think where the problem comes in is where a drive is set improperly or the wrong cable is used. As I mentioned before, it's best (or easiest) to set a drive according to how the system is already set. Looking at one jumper will tell. When building it doesn't matter as long as the builder is consistent. As to media, I've used +R for years and booktype to DVD ROM (can't be done with -R). Sony is a good brand, the MIJ +R are TY and the MIT are Sony. Both excellent media and easily found in most stores or online. I have no preference between the Taiwanese and Japanese product on this one.
