gaming system for 1000

    well i managed to get vista installed after a few tries. updated the graphics drivers. still having unstability. computer shuts off at random, sometimes i still get that stupid error mentioned in my last post and sometimes i get a blank screen? what's going on

    Unplug every peripheral, keyboard and mouse included, and see if you still get the error/crashes.

    i used to get that when installign vista with 4GB of ram, only install with 2GBs and it shoudl be fine.

    use memtest on both sticks, AND reseat the NB with some of your TIM

    been camping for a week but managed to figure it out before i left. adjusted the ram (instead of putting them side by side I put them in the same color coded slots) and also went into bios and set on 64 bit instead of default 32. no crashed yet. thanks alot everybody for your input and help. btw is it normal for the 4850 card to run around 65 degrees idle?

    Ah right, yeah, using the same coloured slots is near essential these days, and yes the 4850 is meant to idle that hot, if not hotter.

    lol 65 IDLE is very good. Mine ran at like 76!

    My 4870X2 idles at only 65, and it's still silent... Weird.

    Bigger fan. More heat but still.

    Mine Idled at 65 once I ramped up the speed. The noise didn't change.

    Maybe so, but the 4870 idles even hotter than the 4850 does.

    now that everything works, how do i overclock this thing? Once again, this is my first time doing this so be gentle.

    Overclocking your CPU should be pretty easy, make a post in the overclocking thread.

    oops, sorry. I did get the SFF21F fan as per your advice from earlier on. nice and quiet.
