A Geforce 6800 needs at least 400-500 watts right, but if your power supply does not meet that requirement, will it still work?

might work but can be iffy. what is the wattage that is marked on your psu?? if have to get a new psu, you might run into some problems like smaller dimensions than a regular psu & the power connector to motherboard might be 24 pin instead of 20 pin

Power Supply Unit. might be stickered on back of case but most likely will have to open tower computer to see what the wattage is marked on the psu

Standard PCs from big names usually come with bare minimum power supplies, and unless the system is incredibly powerful to begin with, they will only usually have 250W or 300W Power supplies. The power quote for nvidia 6800s seems to be slightly unfounded and a 450 should suffice with many other devices, but ensure you upgrade to a decent power supply if you're changing, the 12V rail will need to, (usually) allow in excess of 20A.
