The first four listed subs seem out of sequence. Using the .srt version, I slotted each one into the correct time slot (along with the original line number - which was now out of sequence). I loaded the .srt into Subtitle Workshop. It resequenced the line numbers. Saved as .ssa and uploaded it. http://tinyurl.com/o7lnzv
wow your like a god it worked i also noticed they were 4 that were out of sync but i just deleted those normally because on the video feed the signs are in english lol. how did you resyncronize them? and do you have any idea how i can make the file size stay the same more or less from how it was? thanks
I didn't re-sync them as such. I opened the .ssa file in Subtitle Workshop then saved it as a .srt file. Opened the .srt file in Notepad and noted the times of the first four then 'Cut' the first one and 'Pasted' it into the correct slot, then repeated for the subsequent subs. Opened the corrected .srt file in S.W. and saved as a .ssa file. Do you mean that the AVI file coming out of VirtualDub was not the same size as going in? Normally, in VirtualDub, under 'Video' > 'Compression', you would select the same compressor as the source AVI. If the source was DivX, you select DivX for the output;push the 'Configure' button and set it to default - or perhaps a slightly higher bitrate because it is being recoded..
hmm but i don't know the compressor that i used. i used Format Factory to change it from MKV to AVI i know that the video was encoded in MPEG4 (DivX) but the only thing close to that would be the Xvid MPEG4 which shrinks the file by about 60MB The original file has a video bitrate of 940 the other file has one of 697 i went into Video > Compression > then i clicked on the bottom Xvid pone and then clicked configure > and it says target Quantizer i clicked on that and it changed to target bitrate and changed that to 940 to see if that works if it does then im hoping thats it all finished lol
Dragging the video into the likes of GSpot or MediaInfo will show the codec used. If you want to use the DivX codec, you can download the free version and install it. It will then show up in VirtualDub.
ok i did it i just converted it using the Xvid one and then converted it to DivX on another program yay now i must test if i can get it all done on my own now how do you change the colour of the outline on the subtitles? ok i have all the video stuff down thats all sorted i still havn't been able to change the subtitle border colour. and i keep getting the same problem when i try to put subtitles in they dont't show up only the one you did for me shows up
It's now entering an area I'm not familiar with. I haven't worked with enough MKV files to venture why the subs are not ripping properly. I suggest going to the Videohelp forum and posting the problem there..much more informed than myself.
they rip correctly because when i watch them in subtitle workshop its all fine but when i save as .ssa it just wont work on VirtualDub
can you please check the subtitles to see if i did something wrong? i ripped them from the MKV and it gives me a .srt and a .ass i converted both into .ssa http://www.mediafire.com/?4z3m4w4jj2i http://www.mediafire.com/?0jjjofmq2to http://www.mediafire.com/?zwnz2zm45no http://www.mediafire.com/?mhqyddjcm2o im sorry that im asking so much
_track1 .ass times look ok _track1 .ssa times look ok _track2 .ssa lines one through six have zero start/end times _track2 .srt lines one through six have zero start/end times
yeah i noticed that the .ass is fine on all the ones ive extracted but even after converting it to .ssa it stil doesnt show i finally got it to work at last. i took the .ass files and changed them to .srt then i used srt2ssa converter and then used those ssa files they all worked. i now have yellow subtitles lol any clue how to change the colour?
There's a filter for VirtualDub, called 'TextSub' that lets you change the style of .ssa files. The filter is part of 'VobSub' Scroll down the link to see how to install it (you only care about the VobSub part). http://forum.videohelp.com/topic87065.html
ok i finally got it all sorted it seems. im running the final checks now to see thank you very much for all your help your like a god how come you know so much about this stuff?
Stumbling through the fog? is that like trial and error? ok well it all worked hehe thank you very much
