    TMPGEnc is the best for MPEG-1 and the cheapest for MPEG-2, nero isnt an encoder its a burner they just slapped in the encoding to make it appeal a bit more but it sucks! I think after about 100-200 vcd's I know what I am talking about!

    we have no way of knowing if hes doing anything wrong or not . there fore he gets treated as if he is not and is allowed to ask that question

    No one here is disagreeing that TMPGEnc is the best/cheapest MPEG encoder (it is complicated enough to spin out newbies heads tho , that has to be agreed by yourself Dela as you answer enough questions on it's usage & correct settings)

    All I have to say tho is more fool to someoone who only ever messes with VCD/SVCD (poor , poor quality)

    Actually properly encoded, SVCD is extremely near DVD quality, you wouldnt even notice the difference!

    Yeah maybe , but is the whole process done in 1hr 30 mins or less ?
    And is it usual for SVCD to be a single disc solution ??
    For less quality (definite)

    A DVD Burner can be bought for £69:99 <-

    Could all be down to common sense

    Actually you can rip a dvd very fast to SVCD with the BACH backup method!

    Nah its great a new method that makes 1 pass vbr just as good for quality as 4 pass :)

    I would like to use the Chopin or Tchycovsky method.

    I recommend Easy CD as it is really the lazy way, not encoder but a one click solution. If you don`t like using mutiple programs, its not bad. I personly don`t like Nero and grew up with Easy CD. Nero really is hard to buy in Canada, but Easy CD typically comes with every Burner and can buy in any store.

    But Dela you are right he should use TMPGEnc for encoding.

    Yep, for VCD, IMHO, the best thing to do is, use TMPGEnc for encoding (frameserving to it from DVD2AVI) then when u got your mpg, slip it for 2 cds and then use VCDEasy to author chapters and then burn using VCDEasy!

    herbsman, if i see a question then I will answer it mate, I dont care where it is, accidently posting in the wrong forum isnt a serious you know. And for some ppl the 2 disc solution is the only solution as some people dont have DVD burners!

    Well say that to bill himself since he is an aD user! He would stand up against Piledrive and tell him how the net does help a true artist, so thats makes him shit??

    And as for defending nero as an option over TMPGEnc, pleaseeeeeeeeeee, you should know it cant encode of all people!

    So what are you saying?? Tell newbies to use Nero and never mind the fact that they will get out of sync problems and upside down playback?? wouldnt that spin newbies heads off??

    If people dont have dvd burners what are they supposed to do?? thats yesteryear?? there are more ppl making vcd/svcd still than there is those encoding to dvd-r! And for the record I have a DVD Burner and use it a lot but when i see someone who needs to know how to make a vcd/svcd properly i will tell them the best way i know how!!

    Hi, I've been using TMPGEnc for around 1 year now (since I started ripping and encoding), and I'm still backing up to these prehistoric dinosaurs known as VCDs and SVCDs, and haven't upgraded to one of those spaceage DVD burners yet. Nero is a terrible encoder, tried and tested once, never again might I add. TMPGEnc is not a complicated encoder to use and every option is pretty self-explainitory --> It's worth getting used to instead of taking the one-click Nero route.

    I guess I'll continue to be a fool producing poor poor quality 2 disc solutions which takes longer than 1 hr 30 mins.
