@orvar: what i would suggest that you do is make your exploit as normal, and use launchelf as your loader. when you configure it, set HDA or patched HDL as your 'default' and set the timeout to some low number, maybe even zero. this will make it automatically boot whatever you set at default after XX number of seconds or immediately (if you set it to zero). i have done this on mine, and i know this works. (launchelf 3.4b)

    Good idea. I'll try that.
But just out of curiousity, does anyone know how to custom make a boot.elf?

You change the file you want to boot to BOOT.ELF. ie. HDL.ELF would be changed to BOOT.ELF and it should boot straight to HDL. I haven't tried this myself, I just use K-menu, but give it a try.

Hmmm. Tried renaming HDLoader to boot.elf and it didn't work for me. I read somewhere that not all elfs can boot by themselves.

Did you make sure BOOT.ELF was capatalized when you renamed it? Probably already knew that but you never know. Plus I could swear that i did this already but I could be blowin smoke.

yeah, it's true that not all elf files will boot automatically, which is why i suggested the method of setting an elf to be loaded as default. normally, i use launchelf as my loader and dont have anything set for automatic because i'm still testing everything. i personally know that this works with ps2 keylauncher as well. press the start button to set buttons (keylauncher). i think you can set a timer for it and set one as default to load automatically as soon as the launcher is up. hope that helps

    BTW.

The "old DVD9-patch" or the "new MGS2-patch". Which one does what? What games work with which patch? Is there a way to have both, or do I need to make two different HDL.ELF-files if I want total compatability?

the only thing i can suggest about the different patches, is to read up on them to see what each of them will do. personally i dont need any MGS patch because i choose not to play MGS anything, so that would not apply to me. i am not sure what to say about the 'old dvd9' patch either. i can only assume that it is a variation of the toxic os patch, or the 'fully loaded' patch.

    OK, another question:

In HDLPatch there is an option to force the HDL-menu to NTSC (giving fullscreen). Is there a patch that makes HDL force all GAMES to be in NTSC as well? I know i can patch the games themselves, but it would save a lot of time if HDL just started all PAL games in NTSC.

now that one i dont think is possible, you'd have to patch the games themselves. if hdl was that great, i'd pick up everything around me.

    can someone help me?
my ps2 was SCPH-39006 NTSC/J modded japan console.
I'm using Jet Moto (SIPS_600.20 NTSC/J) as the trigger disc.
    drama history;
Fisrt I used method "Install with exploit installer cd".
I made the Title.db with Title.db maker. I changed the SYSTEM.CNF file in the root directory's LBA to 12231.Also, I should mention that I've tried BOTH using the original BOOT.ELF file included with the keylauncher CD, AND I've also tried downloading the new version of PS2menu and changing the filename to BOOT.ELF.For KL.DAT I used original from keylauncher.
I useed CDGenPs2 to make IMG and burn with Nero.
Note :In root directory have files as SYSTEM.CNF,EXPINST.ELF,CDVD.IRX,TITLE.DB,DUMMY file, and FILES directory have BOOT.ELF and KL.DAT.

I can get it to INSTALL the exploit just fine.
    So here's what happens:

Like I said, it installs just fine. It installs all the files, then says "Installation Complete!". So after noticing it doesn't do anything else, I power down my PS2, pop in Jet Moto, power it up, and.....

Nothing at all. The game doesn't start, as it's not supposed to. But the exploit doesn't start either. WTF? I just get utter blackness, that's it. I've tried this around 6 or 7 times with another BOOT.ELF but it's has SAME results.

After that I think maybe I maked something wrong.
I tried to correct for this problem and found someone talk about
    BIDATA-SYSTEM,Oh...I don't khow before.
OK...I maked ExecFTPs disc and used FlashFXP to connect PC and PS2.
I can access PS2 MC and saw detail in MC,I found BADATA-SYSTEM directory in MC/0/.Oh..I think maybe is my problem.

I found second method "Setting up the exploit with Cheat device".
I used Ps2SaveBuilder to make AR MAX save file with BIDATA-SYSTEM region (BOOT.ELF,KL.DAT,TITLE.DB) and saved to flash drive.

I boot PS2 with AR MAX EVO disc and go to Memory card manager,it's has checkbox to select my MAX save file in flash drive.I check it's and go acroos to "UNCRUCH to memory card" it will then save to my memory card. After it's has saved I unplag flash drive and power down my PS2, pop in Jet Moto, power it up.Oh...nothing at all.

I used ExecFTPs disc and FlashFXP to connect PC and PS2 to acess PS2 MC again.I found BOOT.ELF,TITLE.DB,KL.DAT in MC/0/BIDATA-SYSTEM directory.I don't know how to make PS2 MC exploit.

    Anyone can help me!...

Your system is japenese so you must enter the code for that region. ie. BEDATA-SYSTEM - Europe (the second letter E), BADATA-EUROPE - America/USA (second letter A) and BIDATA-SYSTEM - Japan (Second letter I).

In Save builder do everything as you have but when you are finished adding all the files go to the top. There is an empty box with 'Region' alongside it. Enter BIDATA-SYSTEM in here and proceed.

If you continue to have problems, repost the steps you've taken.

p.s. this method is for the max evo/cheat device.

Quick Question. I have looked around for this but no luck. I have installed the exploit just fine. Using a many different methods. Completely happy with it. I tried to swap a hd into a buddies console (SCPH-39001/N) and hdloader wanted me to format the hd. Swapped everything into another console, (MC, HD, etc..) and it worked just fine. So it is something with that specific console. Any help?

Well it seems like I stump everyone in all the forums, I have questions in multiple forums that no one has been able to answer so maybe you guys can help. To me it seems like a simple task to the experienced but that is exactly what I don't have yet.

What I was wondering was if anyone knows how to change the icons for ps2 save files, and where to get the .7c patch for hdloader. I was able to find all the way up to .7b but .7c is a mystery.

Also I still haven't figured out what was wrong in the post above.

    @ 8ert

look in http://www.ps2hd.com/forums/ there's a mod/admin named mikerocosms. he has the 7c patch in his signature. just read around and you'll definitely see it.

yes, some things are console specific. i have a 39001, and EVERYTHING (that i have tried) works perfectly, but i have a friend with a 50001 and i can read my usb drive, but can't copy and paste files from it. and also, no one answered my ???s about that either.

lastly, no i dont know anything about the icons, but i assume it's possible with an icon creation program. just make a 3d pic, and save it as an .icn file (i think) and see if anything explodes.

I think I figured it out....all I did was use ms paint (unsure about quality) to convert it to .bmp and bmp2icn and the .icn seems to work with savebuilder, just drop it in.I will have to play with it some more. Plus I have been playing the splash screens and fonts for hdloader.....what a kick in the pants.

As far as the copying from Mass to mc0, ps2-menu would work about twice then lock up on me, don't know why and no one said anything about bugs in ps2-menu, so i just switch to keylauncher or launchelf, and use hdformat to create a partition(If I am copying files to the HD) and then use flashfxp to copy any files.

And yea, I did know about the keylaunch file transfer, when you press start,(found a sub-menu on hdloader also, just press start, why doesn't anyone tell you about these things) but it is 50/50 on wether it locks up or not. Haven't had a single prob with flashFXP once I figured out how to mount the partition.

Hello all. I don't want to ask a question thats been asked 10,000 times, but here goes. I need to get a downloaded save game from my pc to my ps2 memory card. Now I followed the instructions on http://www.forumcommunity.net/?t=903119&view=getlastpost to no avail. Everything seems to work fine until I load the cd using swap magic. It starts out fine then stops. Heres all I know, I have NTSC system, v7 flip top lid and swap magic 2.0 set. No hard drive or anything. Now when its loading is says in small type while loading:

    Welcome to PS2Menu v2.66
    please wait....
    Mc Brown sbv_patches
Load IOP modules from EE memory
    Loading SIO2MAN
    Loading MCMAN
    Loading MCSERV
    Loading PADMAN
    Loading poweroff.irx 2137bytes
    Loading fileio.irx 8029bytes
    Loading ps2ated.irx 10961bytes
    Loading ps2hdd.irx 26573bytes
    Loading ps2fs.irx 53957bytes
    Loading cdvd.irx 33647bytes
    Loading ps2retfs.irx 17793bytes

The best I can tell thats word for word whats it says, but when it reaches the Loading ps2retfs.irx 17793bytes it just stops and never advances. If anyone has any idea whats up please let me know, or if there is another set of instructions somewhere. Thanks in advance
