Those movies, using normal programs, pretty much do that due to compression. If quality settings werent on, and all the little adjustments made, that would be expected.

No compression on original dvds. They are all pressed in,unless it's a pirated disc.Even pirate discs are popping up that have been pressed.

Backups and originals showing same issues-sounds like something wrong with the original discs.Damaged discs or encryption related?

Here's a link to some of those movies with problematic encryption:

I've even encountered a few that gave my Sony Dvp-ns325 an occasional flareup. Simple re-authoring and cutting out some columbia trademarks took care of those issues.

Thank you for the correction. If I wouldn't have speed-read through it, I would have seen the valuable "AND ORIGINALS" in the post.
    Didnt mean to confuse anyone.

I may be out of place in this forum with this question...but,Is there a way to "hac" firmware upgrades for stand alone players that would possibly enable my Sony to play a wider range of backup copies?By the way,I solved Kong by finaly burning a DL copy. All is fine now..I could never get anywhere with all the compression programs for a decent copy.
