I think you guys should stop all the ranting about media quality. I think IDVDCOPY2 has a problem finalizing DVD-R media. I have a Sony DRU-500A with latest firmware (2.1a). Since this burner uses +R and -R media, I buy both types of media when it goes on sale. I had been using quality 4x DVD+R media with IDVDCOPY2 and DVDIdle 5.12 with great results, my DVD+R media spindle ran out, so I pulled out a spindle of quality Verbatim 4x DVD-R (movie reel discs) and started to copy a movie with IDVDCOPY2, the disc ejected, said job was complete, but couldn't read the disc. Thought maybe a fluke, burned again, same result, tried another brand of DVD-R media, same bad result. Finally I watched as IDVDCOPY2 burned the disc, when it started to finalize the disc, it went to about 5% and then jumped to end, said complete, but in fact disc wasn't finalized. I tried another DVD+R disc, all was well! Finally I found a copy of IDVDCOPY1.2 and it seems to work with all media, but it does seem to be a bit slower, but worth the wait for the quality and solid results across all media. So, to the original poster, try a DVD+R disc if your drive supports it, I bet all will work great. My 2 cents.
Hello Moon_Man, Welcome to our little Club As has happened in other forums on this topic a check of media is usually as allot of pple are using cheap media. Poor media quality accounts for an unbelievable number of coasters. Buying the least expensive discs can be a costly mistake. I have said many times, there’s a reason why it’s cheap. They save money somewhere and that usually means poor quality control. BTW, like anything else, Verbatim makes excellent discs and some “Economy (not all that freakin’ good) DVD media. We recommend Datalife or “branded,” “Advanced Metal AZO” media that’s some of the best stuff around. Also, good quality doesn’t have to cost an arm or a leg – average prices are about $.50 – to $.60 ea. (USD). Cheers, Pete
Moon_Man I have the same problem with IcopyDVD2. It goes through all the motions of copying and burning, ejects and when slid back in, no disc is detected. They don't work in any other computers or DVD players either. I tried both -R and +R Sony's and Verbatim AZO's and all I have is 5 coasters so far.
Hi there luxorman, It could be a firmware problem if the discs aren't detected on other PC's. The only other explanation is it could be "knock-off" media. It's not uncommon to purchase media that has been scrapped by one mfg and re-stamped by some unscrupulous company and redistributed - Try this program to see what comes up through a disc identifier - http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Let us know the real scoop - cheers,
The only other option is to try a different proggy. Using DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter may help, it's not so picky as to the media - you can reduce the size of the movie to arounf 4200MB so that you're writing away from the discs edge - There's nothing much that you can do for crappy media - As has been said, if you have a car with a flat tire and no spare - a washing and a wax job won't hurt but you really need a tire I don't know how much it will help but here's "Uncle" ScubaPete's, Last Ditch Stopgap Fixes (Not Recommended): 1. * There's a little sometimes fix. It's to compress your DVD to somewhere around 4.2GB even (4200MB). For instance when using DVD Shrink, open it and click "Edit", then click "Preferences" on this page we're going to select "DVD Target Size" as custom and set the size as 4200MB. By reducing the amount to be burned you can stay away from the edges where the dye tends to be uneven and the discs may even be brittle. 2. You can reduce the numbers of errors while burning cheapo media by burning at a reduced speed. It takes longer but what the heck, you're saving money. There's something very strange going on mcmurry's CPU if he can't even get a disc identifier to work properly. I don't understand what all the fuss about ICOPYDVDs2 is ... even with landfill grade media, I can at least get it to playback on my DVD writer. The problem is that it just won't play anywhere else unless I use decent media. When I first got ICOPYDVDs2, I had a problem getting it going but a call to the merchant that I purchased it from, got me straightened out ... My biggest complaint is that ICOPYDVDs2 won't copy copies ... DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink will ...
hey Catfreak Well how about letting us in on what tips the merchant gave you to get this thing running, cause so far I can't seem to get a finalized disc that can be read by anything!
Sorry it took me so long to respond, but I can't for the life of me remember what they had me do to get the program up and running properly ... However, do not despair ... I found some paperwork related to the subject ... You need to contact ICOPYDVDs2's tech-support staff and they can walk you thru the process to get you going properly ...
