vurbal, it was just a guess on my part, since I went ahead and bought basic, I haven't used SP, for some reason I thought I'd read it's default setting was 4 passes and I knew basic's was 2 thus my math came up with 2 is half of 4= 4hrs is half of 8hrs. I guess in the final analysis I added 2+2=5.
mccoy5 Sounds good, what you might want to do before you begin your next encode is to shut down any firewalls, viruscans (nortons is a hog)that are running in the background and any other applications that might use your CPU cyles and memory up.
bigorange, No big deal. Now you've learned something, and that's what we're all here for anyway mccoy5, I agree with Sophocles. Since MPEG encoding is very CPU intensive, background processes can cause a slowdown because CCE has to wait for CPU cycles occasionally. If you don't want to shut down your virus scanner, you can also see if changing CCE's priority to idle. It seems like it should make CCE slower, but in reality it just makes it work and play well with other programs and probably only costs you 1%-3% in speed compared to running CCE with no significant background processes. With the trial version you can do this by running CCE (actually running EclCCE so it will open CCE) and going to the Help menu and selecting About. There will be a tab for EclCCE where you can set the priority. With CCE Basic you need to start DVD Rebuilder with a batch file (a text file with the .BAT extension) containing this line: start /low Rebuilder.exe Since Rebuilder will be running at Idle priority, any program it starts will also run at that priority.
I have run another test on DVDcopy2 with Anydvd. Thanks for the tip on safe mode. The quality of the movie did not improve and I didn't find any adjustments for quality. The DVD looks fine it is just the lowest quality of the 5 tested programs. I don't wan't to wast a lot of DVDs on an obvious step down so unless there is some way to improve the quality of the encode I figure I'll stop with the demo. For reference the test movie was Braveheart, 8.5 gigs 177 minutes full dvd like the rest of them. Is this just to much compression for a quick encode like this? Does the quality dramatically improve over other programs when smaller movies are used? As it stands: In order of Quality on this test. 1. CCE 2. Pinnacle 3. DVDShrink 4. Xcopy 5. DVDcopy2 _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Donald[/small]
I noted the 8hr time on the 1.7 p4. The older P4s were a little slow. It is possibly normal for this setup. What was the Rambus speed? The 600 rambus was rather limiting.

Are you saying that you don't know what the problem is with the DVDcopy2 that I have been using. I feel the general results with my testing have been in line with what you and the others have been saying about CCE vs Shrink and the quality of Pinnacle. I simply did not get the same results from DVDcopy2 which leads me to the question of why? I can test on a different setup if you can't think of a setting that might change my results. If you wish to see the results of my initial tests I can send you what I am seeing. I am having problems getting the pictures on my home page so I can't figure out how to post them. If you have a place to host them it would help. Don't discount my work because you don't agree with the results. If I thought the same way I would have never used CCE or dug up my pinnacle which I consider important and usefull now. To be honest I would have loved to rip and burn a superior copy in 30 minutes and fully expected it after following previous advice on the other programs. Don't look at it as me saying that shrink is better than DVDcopy2. Assume it is a problem that can be solved. If I can't solve it then I will live without it but the extra speed would be nice. Both CCE and Pinnacle do take a long time to get the good results. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Donald[/small]
Sophocles, ran out of patience, didn't you? I have to agree with you about Intervideo DVDCopy2. I don't know what product 64026402 is looking at. It is fast and the quality of the rips are extremely good. I am always amazed by it. How one can rank it last among those other rippers is very shadowy to me. 64026402, details and proof, please. The only time I had any problem with it was on one occasion where I ripped and burned with it 'on the fly'. It seemed to lose frames from time to time. The clarity, sharpness, contrast and color rendition remained excellent.
Sophocles You did hurt my feelings a little with your last post. I have been putting a lot of hours into this project. I have purchased software because of and I am happy with the programs I own so far except Xcopy. If you continue to work with me then the answers could help more than just me but others who have similar problems.
6402...I have repeatedly told you to rip with decrypter and run with it in dvdcopy2, i've yet to hear that you did that. I also stated that it was recommended to use decrypter to rip and it was decidedly slower with anydvd. I too had heard negative results about copy2 until I actually tried this method, there is no way it finished last, and especially below shrink! As far as wasted dvd's go, even the greenest newbie knows to use rw's til he gets dependable, qualified results. signed, unbelievable in TN _X_X_X_X_X_[small] [bold]GO VOLS![/bold]........Dell Media4600, XP home,Pentium 4 @2.80GHz/800Mz, 512MB, 280 HD w/8MB, 17" flat panel, AIO-A920, 8x DVD-ROM, integrated 5.1 audio, HP dc4000, Plextor PX-708UF[/small]
Also, let's remeber the title of this thread: 'Input on DVD Rebuilder Guide'. As long as we occasionally drift a bit, I don't think friend Vurbal minds too much. If we get into prolonged and repetitive discussions about other software and all the stuff we disagree on, I think we may be imposing...
I am ripping with decypter as we speak. I anydvd a no no on DVDcopy2? I was transfering to the hard drive directly with Anydvd before I read your post. I had some concern that I used the wrong source on the last burn and possibly repeated an error. I stopped the Anydvd rip and will use decrypter files next. Thanks.
Speaking of rebuilder, can I use it and or CCE to change the DVD from PAL to NTSC during the process. Or do I have to do it seperately before I open rebuilder. And how do I change the DVD output size. I didn't see it in settings. I wanted to get the burn a little ways off the edge. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Donald[/small]
I don't think you can change it in Rebuilder because it will change the number of frames (among other things) and I don't think it will go back together correctly. The size of the disc can be changed a couple of ways. The latest version of RB-Opt has an option to set the size higher than what Rebuilder has it set to, or you could do what I do and set it in the Rebuilder.ini file which is in the directory Rebuilder.exe is in. Open Rebuilder.ini with Notepad and add this line under [Options]: CCETargetSectors=2260000 I used to have it set to 2265000, but when I ran into a DVD that ended up 14MB too big I set it to the above. My DVDs end up anywhere from 10MB-30MB smaller than a blank DVD-R normally.
I tried copying platoon last night, phase 1: 8min, Phase 2: 515 min phase 3: 25 min. I set half d1 for extras, which gave a 22.4% for extras. but the compression for dvd-5: 42%. is that not a little low? My rambus is 800mhz 64026402
Thanks Vurbal. One reason for getting CCE/rebuilder was so I could get the best quality while trying to keep the DVDs finger print resistant by reducing the output size. A lot of my DVDs don't get handled well.

I did get confused about the thread I was in. I am still working with CCE on my bigger DVDs but its kind of slow going. The comparison should have been in the comparison thread . I will not post about different programs in this thread anymore. I did get my pitures up finally if you care to see the results. http://home.kc.rr.com/dfulghum/photo.htm
With the purchased copy of CCE are you suppose to use on one machine only or is it OK to use it on multple machines without buying an extra license. I thought doing 2 DVDs a night might help move things along.
6T4T It's never legal to use a piece of software on more than one machine at atime but in a single home and family unit that just doesn't sound like fair use to me. Hmm! It also has no online activation code requirements either. Are you with us for real this time or just playing?
