Intermittent DM800HD external hdd recording error/message

    Fintan,
    Tried that last night ... dismantled both machines.
    unplugged Sata lead on DM800 ... plugged in lead direct from HDD.
    DM800 could not see HDD at all.

    There is a second part to the lead from HDD with 4 female pins .. I could not see an obvious connecting point on DM for this ... any ideas ?

    I had a look at the manual ... and spotted that power source just behind sata conx.

    However on my model there is a large fan on top of the unit .. which may hide access point for power cable ... ??
    does that make sense

    this second part is the power to the harddisk. you will see that it connects into the harddisk alongside the data connection
