Hi Catfreak I have purchased a BenQ & installed it. It is Aug build ,Chinese made unit & firmware BSJB

Now how do I change the way my PC sees the LG as F drive & the BenQ as E drive ? I thought moving LG to where my old Rom drive & changing the little slave / master thing would correct that.

Also do I download Qsuite from BenQ site when I update firmware & is the solid burn also a download or built in ?

One last thing, is the firmware update pretty straight forward or do I have to go into safe mode to change ?

    Hi
    "catfreak ...and pay xtra $ for those four letters S O N Y "
I agree with that & then they'll end up crossflashing to a 1640 so as to be able to use Solid Burn/OverSpeed.

    Hi folks,
CATFREAK, I have a question on QScan ... actually anyone who can answer me I would appreciate it ...
I have a BenQ DW-1640 and I love it, has not failed me YET! I run BSMB and I have QSuite 2.1. Until yesterday I was able to run QScan on my different blanks to see what Speed BenQ recommends to burn at ... well, the same DVD blank that I was able to do the test on few days back, the QSuite is not reading it today, it gives me Error "Media is Not Supported". so, I uninstalled the QSuite and re-installed it and still gives me the same Error.
Q1: What is causing my problem?
Q2: How do I use the many Capabilities of the QSuite that you have mentioned ... for example the "Solid Burn" funtion of QSuite ... do I run it in the background or what?
Q3: I use Taiyo Yuden DVDs, I have TYG03's (16X), what is the FASTEST speed that you Experts recommend to burn at without COMPROMISING the QUALITY of your Back-ups.
    THANKS!

    1- I've had problems with QSuite v2.1 .. I use v2.0

2- Solid burn runs in the background .. I check both of the 'activated' boxes though ...

2- I burn everything at 'max' speed and seem to get the best scans that way

    Hi,
Try using latest f/w (BSNB) when using QSuite 2.1.

    Hi folks,
    1) Thanks Zebadee ... I installed BSNB just now. A-OK! It seems BenQ folks know that they had a problem between BSMB version and the QScan. I tried the Qscan and now it woirks fine. However, a pointer for my Friends on this Thread .. I noticed reading up the guide for QSuite ... don't try running the "Smart" option of QScan if you have WOPC activated (which it is in Deafult mode anyway).
    2) Catfreak, Thanks for your answers. I have a Question for you ... under the "Solid Burn" Tab of the QSuite ... I noticed that "Supported Disc" is NOT Activated as a Default, yet for "Unknown Disc" it is Activated as a Default. Could you explain it. Or better yet, please tell me if I have both of them ACTIVATED as you have, WHAT WOULD I GAIN?
    THANKS Friends!

I like the 'supported disc' feature to be activated because I can then see the different manufacturers of DVD that I've used ...

    Hi folks,
I have a BenQ 1640 with BSNB firmware. I have been backing up my DVDs very nicely with this unit. Until thi smorning I push the BUTTON to Open the TRAY and the TRAY WILL NOT OPEN!!! This happened to me few times before and I just restarted my computer and solved the problem ... but this time it does not work.
    Helpppp ...
    Q1: Is my BenQ dead?
Q2: Is there a way that I can get the unit open it's TRAY?

You should be able to straighten a paper clip and insert it into the hole beneath the tray.

    Hi TWAL1011,
THANKS! I tried your "Paper Clip" idea and forced the door open. I opened and closed the TRAY few times with it's power button to be on the safe side and it seems the darn unit is working again.
    THANKS AGAIN.

I had the same problem with my Plextor 740a (rebadged BenQ 1640). After a burn with Decrypter the tray would not open. The only way to open it was with a paper clip. I finally fixed the problem by going into Decrypter/tools/drive and clicked "unlock tray". After that I never had the problem again.

cATFREAK & PALS - a new saturday morning kids show? LOL! Been wanting to order BENQ DW 1640 but supply seems to have dwindled & completely vanished @ newegg ! Now their coming out with the Dw 1655 wondering should I wait for that & if the price will be close ? And no I don't want to buy a rebadged one in sony or plextor clothing ! or The DW 1655's sold as I/O MAGIC brand! The lightscribe faeture of the dw1655 would be nice if the price of media ever comes down but not a real big feature for me . decisions decisions! What's up with the Benq's supply was it xmas that has them short on stock ? Thanks Catfreak & everyone !Happy Burning!
