i don't have any slysloft products. i have done several hundred perfect backups. the only problems i have had have been a few bad presses and the occasional scratch. alkohol is correct.
    my system-
    rip with dvdfab
    run through vobblanker
    recode 2 (or shrink)
    burn with nero (or imgburn)
this system has never let me down (or cost me a penny!)

Never let you down, but takes four steps, opening and closing 4 programs, processing time to run content through each of the programs, to get a backup that ONE program can give you. There is NO amount of convincing you can do that would make me believe what you get is superior to using just cloneDVD. You make my point admirably. ANY time a person using free programs, it will take you longer and spend more time to get content of at best equal quality. You saved money, but you make no mistake, when people are so stubborn as to make the argument for free programing, they ARE paying dearly for it. My friend, you pay more for each backup each and every time you make one, than you would if you just paid for some good backup program and be done with it.

I paid for my programs, and now I never have to pay again, you on the other hand, pay every time you spend extra needless time attempting to make a backup with your free programs. I just do not understand the reasoning behind that effort. Why continue to pay for that free crap.

there's valid reasons for staying free and for paying. as i posted further up the page, my method is real simple, nice and lazy, just how i like it - "DVD Shrink, and for those movies it can't do alone, DVDFab Decrypter, then DVD Shrink. and sometimes DVD Decrypter too (sometimes followed by DVD Shrink)". easy as pie.
but i respect other peoples' opinions on how they do their movies...

    @diverj

i only work six months out of the year, so the rest of the year i have all the time in the world. i have no problem with four steps.

if i had less time, i might go a differen't route. but that's not the case. like i have stated in many of my other posts in differen't threads. i think anydvd is a great proggy. do i have it? no... will i buy it? ...definitely. [bold]when i need it.[/bold]

...and secondly, since you used my post for your "quote", i didn't make an argument for anything. all i did was state the system that i use, and that works for ME. so, i don't appreciate being called "stubborn".

it's members like you that take this stuff so seriously that make me laugh when i read your posts....

    tjedwards.

There is no reason to get upset or hostile over this. Like I said several posts ago, if your way of doing a backup works for you, keep using that system and programs. If the final result you get is a backup dvd that plays when you want it to, then its all you can ask for. I have see heated debates over quality scans between program usage. Its a backup copy, not the original. If its plays and can be watched then its good enough for me. I have compressed movies at 50% and they still play well. If I get a slight glitch now and then I don't really care. I'm not trying to pass off my backups as originals. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so just keep it calm if you need to keep the debate going. Creaky may need to stomp on you if it gets out of hand,LOL.

i'll force everyone to use DVD Shrink, that'll stop the arguing :)

    not really...

it seems this is one of those subjects that will burn on forever more.
I use free, but only because it does the job; i don't get bogged down with ALL the free stuff, partly as i don't need to, DVDFab Decrypter (so far) just does the trick.
I could easily buy AnyDVD, no real reason that i haven't, it's certainly not a cost thing, AnyDVD costs naff all. i'm just happy with the handful of (simple to use) programs that i have. Everyone's different, i'm a bit lazy and just use the right tools for the job (my tools just don't happen to be everyone else's choice of tools). As long as my tools still work i'll still use them; but a key thing here is i appreciate that other's use other programs, and for a few different reasons.

So i just don't see why this argument rages on :p

    no argument here.

i just don't like being called stubborn. (which i am)LOL!

it just kinda bothered me when diverj used my 1st post for his "rant" when all i did was state the system that i use. it does not matter to me what proggy people use, as long as it works for them......GREAT!

The main point of this thread is "the original poster" posted: "Just curious: how many people in this forum DONT have anyDVD?" Of course with this kind of question asked, there are some that doesn't used AnyDVD at all. Isn't it ironic when the thread is asking "who don't have AnyDVD?" yet AnyDVD users jumped in and started to cry to some of us that loves free tools?

I seriously don't see the point of someone (some people) constantly saying; "why not use AnyDVd + CloneDVD2? Why used 3 programs to get things done?" Simple and easy, yes... if it works for you, then use it and let it be. Stop complaining; stop crying out loud to those that don't use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. Now let alone "quality" and don't even go there.

I don't come here and tell AnyDVD lovers/users to ditch AnyDVD. That being said, my point is... if I'm happy with what I used and it works, then why should I care for AnyDVD? Money is NOT an issue for me; $39 is pretty cheap if you'd asked me. So why go around and criticizing those that are using free tools instead of AnyDVD?

There are 3 kinds of people when it comes to DVD ripping and burning; (1) the few (the advanced) that would never pay for anything, but simply using some good ole free tools. (2) Those that will pay for anything and (3) those clueless that will pay for tons of programs/softwares, yet still lost when issues arise.

Again, I must repeat, money is NOT an issue for me. Hence, if I want to get AnyDVD, I will and I can even if it cost $200 or $300 just for that piece. However, we're entitled to our own judgment (to each own), plus I have my own reason not to.

I do not have Anydvd! Never had any reason. DVD Shrink for me and on a few of the newer ones DVDFab Decrypter first. Very good and very simple.

Many of us, and probably most of us, that use AnyDVD and CloneDVD, couldn't care less what you use. When we offer the advice to use AnyDVD and CloneDVD, we're offering an option, that we know [bold]WORKS[/bold].
For whatever reason, people have a lot of trouble using a lot of the free software. I, and others, also use some free software, in conjunction with AnyDVD. And we get the job done. We suggest AnyDVD because it works. It's that simple.

Look around the forums, and you'll find more threads where people have trouble making backups with Shrink, DVD Fab Decrypter, VOB Blanker, DVD Decrypter, IMGBurn, RipIt4Me, etc..........

You'll find a few that have trouble with AnyDVD and CloneDVD too. But not that many. I think those that have problems with them, have something on their computer, that conflicts with them somehow.

I don't know what all the fuss'in is about. I've got all the free ones, and the other ones too.

I just love trying new software to see what it is capable of.

If one proggy won't do what I want ( which of course could be operator error or lack of knowledge), TRY something else until you accomplish what you've set out to do in the first place.

If a proggy gives you the results you're looking for then end of story!

    Peace,

    Weycraze

You mistook my post. I used your quote to back up my thoughts, however, I never once called "you" stubborn. I was talking in general terms...."when people" I never mentioned your name, and it was never my intent to call anyone personally to the floor. You have a perfect right to use any method you prefer of course. I just do not understand the mentality it takes to go through more steps and time for free programs, when one will do (even if I have to pay for it) the job as well or better. I find paid programs better built, better documented, and it makes no sense to put ones self through multiple steps for the same quality output. Now, if the paid program cost 600 dollars and it took that to create a better output, then YES, I could see using free, but just to save 29 dollars? To me, the argument would be useless and stubborn.

Do not fool yourself, or attempt to fool me. You take this stuff serious, or you 1) would not be making backups of your movies 2) would not be reading and responding to posts in a forum when you are satisfied with the way you do things 3) responding to posts and stating " you do not appreceiate...." when someone says something you do not like instead of "just laughing" as you state you do, forgetting it and moving on. If you do not take this stuff seriously you would be doing none of the above. Since you had to call me on the carpet alerts me that you DO TAKE THIS STUFF SERIOUSLY.
