ok, I just got the M3 and passkey and Im a bit confused. I put in the CD and read teh instructions. The gamemanager's instructions just say to transfer the game with game manager and then select "game" from the main menu. The passkey's instructions however say to copy over the k2hw02.gba file and load that from GBA mode and them use that to register the serials of the DS game and then it goes on to list the serials for a bunch of games. Do I register a game and then play with M3 manager or do I even have to use Passkey boot? also, does it matter which way I plug in my CF card into the M3?
Th CF will only go into the M3 one way, if it dosn't go in, don't force it, just turn it round and try the other way. You need to program the Passkey2 before yu can play any games. **I CAN NOW HELP!!** got my DS Lite today so I was forced to learn how to prgram the Passkey :-D First, make sure you have the updated passkey2 files: http://dualscene.net/infusions/pro_download_panel/download.php?funk=file&catid=2&did=62 Extract these to the root of your CF card. Put the CF card in your M3 and your M3 in your DS. Do not insert the passkey. Load the M3 in GBA mode and find "K2-RAM03.gba" and load it. Now check the original DS game you are going to use with the Passkey, there should be a code that is ismilar to this "NTR-ASCP-EUR" you need to find the middle part (in this case ASCP) and find it on the list on your screen, press A a few times until it says it's done. Now turn your DS off, then on again. This time load "K2-HW03.gba" Take your M3 out, and plug in the thing that came with your Passkey, and plug your passkey into the thing. Press select, and select again. Then wait untill the Passkey has been updated. Turn off the DS and take out everything. Plug the M3 in, and plug the Passkey, with the orginal game attached into the DS slot. Turn on your DS and the M3 menu should load Now you can load games onto the CF card using the M3 gamemanager and play. If you need help with the gamemanager just ask.
so do I have to program the games in passkey if Im just using Passkey 1 and a normal DS? and I tried putting an old 32 mb CF card I had into my M3. For some reason It went in both ways
If you only have a passkey 1, you shoudl only need to plug everything in and go. What firmware is your DS? That must be a crap CF card then, anyway if you hold the front of the M3 towards you, the CF should go in with it's back facing you (if yu can what way is the back on that CF)
so the back of my cf card is on the side of the M3 that has the label? When I take a game out after I turn on my DS it freezes and doesn't turn any colors. That means firmware 1, right?
I assume your doing that in Pictochat, in which case, yes that is firmware 1 so the Passkey1 should work. Yes.
alright, so I dont need to do anything with the passkey except make sure its there? Do I need a game card in it?
Yes, an original game is needed. Also, can you just confirm that you are doing the firmware test in pictochat, as you havn't made that clear yet. It will freeze on any firmware, it is only when in the top pictochat room where it would change colour (or freeze on FW1).
yeah, I just tried it again in pictochat and its firmware 1. So I insert any DS game into the Passkey and just use M3 manager to transfer games? Thanks, I think I got it. Ill go look for my card reader and try it out now.
in terms of media capabilities for the supercard and m3... i havent really heard anyone say that they use for music or videos and stuff.. is it feasible to do so *mp3s mpg/avi files* ... and how does it fare out once on the ds...
niether the M3 or Supercard have the ability to play MPG or AVI files. To play videos on either of these you must first convert the video to the appropriate format. The M3 has 3 different ways of playing video, using it's GBA video software, it's DS video software, or Moonshell. The GBA video, to be honest, is crap, but can be played on GBA's. The DS video is much better quality, but still does not quite match up to Moonshells qulity. Moonshell has the best quality of the three, but file sizes can be quite high for the best quality. The supercard has 2 ways of playing video, using GBA and using Moonshell. the GBA playback was a ripped version of the M3's old GBAMPv2 player, and is extremly poor quality, even more worse than that of the M3s GBA video. Moonshell is pretty much the same quality as with the M3, but has to be downloaded seperatly, where as the M3 has it's own version of Moonshell which is included in the firmware. Both devices use Moonshell for MP3 playback, the M3 does have it's own music playback system, but requires the music to be converted first, and is not worth using.
so video and music wise is the m3 still better because of its compatability with both nds and gba games? i mean if the video and music is equally as good on a supercard i could see myself just settling for that for the time being..
I would not know how well the supercard plays video as I never had a supercard that was worth putitng video on,. But the M3 is better at playing GBA games than the supercard, and it saves alot more battery than the supercard, which obviously allows you to watch more video before the battery runs out.
I forgot to ask this but say I "back up" a game that is in Japaneese. Is there a way to get a patch and use something like IPS to translate it?
Not currently, but there are people working on it, I am currently waiting for Jump Super Stars to be translated, they have done the menu and the tutorial which proves it can be done, just need to be patient now Really wish the game Bleach was translated, have no idea what i was doing on that game ¬_¬
my new card reader just arrived and I tried it out and everything is working. I tried metroid hunters with no trim rom, fast startup, 1x, and software reset all checked. It worked pretty good but slowed down a couple times during intense action. What are the best settings to transfer with?
Like you said, it slowed down, so instead of using 1xDMA, use 4xDMA, this will speed up how quickly the game is read from the card.
I got a problem. I tried to play metroid again (I didn't retransfer it) but it just goes to a white screen and freezes. what could the problem be?
