    Hey Chicksmom
I followed your directions on setting up the phone, but there was one problem. When you said "make sure motorola usb modem is highlighted" there was no Motorola Usb modem option.
I know my v220 has a usb port and its hooked up, but it doest detect it or anything.
When I go to device config wizard the select device area only gives me...
BCM V.92 56K Modem to choose from.
So I go into Add Hardware Wizard from there and i try install a new modem. I click on Motorola and the go down to Motorola USB Modem (since that is the one i want i presume).
Then it asks which port i want to install it in. There is only 1 option that says COM1 so i choose that. So I click next and it says I set it up, but when i go back to the select device too its not there.

I do the BCM V.92 56K Modem option then it says everything is fine. Says device has been detected, but could not be identified. Then I choose my phone from the list and get it. Then i say okay and it starts to initialize it, but it does it for a while and eventually doesnt do anything and says mobile not connected.
    can anyone help? please!

    Try this:
    Click 'Change Modem'
Click on 'Other Device' (it should have a yellow ? next to it)
You must then select which COM Port to use.
If you are not sure, there should be a button called 'Check COM Ports' - click on it.
The computer will then check it's own ports and tell you what is in the ones that are displayed.
Which ever one the phone is plugged in to will say ' Motorola USB Modem', select this option.
Click on 'Next' and follow the instructions.
The computer will then try to detect the appropriate driver for the phone automatically.
It should then detect your phone.

Post back when you've had a go.

K I did what you said and it only has COM1 and COM3.
    COM1 says Communications Port
and COM3 says BCM V.92 56K Modem [Modem Detected]

I had my USB and phone hooked up to my front USB ports, so I decided to try the ones in the back, to see if it would detect it better or something, but no go.

I'ts always saying Modem, im wondering if I need some kind of USB Modem driver or something? iono im really confused, because the 56K modem is all its detecting.

have you not downloaded any drivers at all?

Go to this site and DL the driver for P2k_Driver_WinXP http://bongowireless.com/file_download.php

I also downloaded some other drivers from this link: http://www.free.cz/motorola/
    Motorola_USB_Modem_D..> 29-Jun-2004 18:22
    P2K_driver_2.3.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:19
    p2kman.zip 29-Jun-2004 18:13
    p2kman2.zip 30-Jan-2004 15:19

The ones from cz/motorola are not essential but i found that mine detected the phone faster when i had DLed these.

hmm i just thought of something...

in the little tutorial Bart44 gave I dont know if i installed the P2k_Driver_WinXP. I mean, i downloaded, but on the tutorial it says "You have to unzip them but there isn't anything that you have to install." So i did, but i didn't know what else to do with the files. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Okay, ill try to dl those and see what happens.

When you unzip it, direct it to save it to the desktop so that it is easy to find. You can move it later.

When configuring your device in 'general setup', browse to the folder you unzipped the archive to.

Also, make sure you go to cz and download the Motorola USB driver. I think it is a useful driver to have.

Go to device manager and under Modems look for motorola USB modem (make sure your phone is plugged into the computer). Then right click and uninstall. After the uninstall unplug the phone and replug it in. Windows will detect it and ask for drivers, point it to the p2k drivers.

This forum is Great! I've learned a lot.

I'm having a problem getting MPT up and running. I donloaded MPT3.23 and installed. The phone wasn't connected to the USB cable. The generic phone came up. I selected Setup, Live Update, and the Live Update window comes up. It shows 8 green bars in the "Search Progress" field, and stays like that forever. There isn't any modem activity (no receive activity). It's dead.

    My hunch:
Maybe I should I have started with MPT 3.11 first, then install 3.23?

I've tried checking the LAN connection and Modem connection option. Makes no difference - it still hangs during Live Update. When I cancel out from Live Update, MPT disconects my computer from the modem that connects me to the internet. (which tells me mpt knows I use a modem for internet activity, not a LAN)

Any ideas? I use Win XP home edition

    TIA!

Part 2: Background info to complete the picture.

I really started with MPT 1.23, then updated to MPT 2.2 I downloaded P2k_Driver_WinXP. I followed that process, and started live update. With a modem connection to the internet, the updates take a while. I received an error message about _MOBILE_ORIGINE=. I couldn't get past this stage.

So I looked furthre, and found instructions to start with MPT 3.23 which brings me to today. (and my post above). In summary, I'm in the middle of following the 2nd recommended method, and am running into problems.

I hope the extra info helps...

If phone tools 3.23 works fine, then why fix something that is not broken. Updating to phone tools 3.25b is not recommended it's just an option. Here's a download link to upgrade from 3.23 to 3.25b if you really need it http://s1.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/3b2f2b54c38464c6/

forget what i said, Motodudes right.
My advice would be to stay where you are.
3.23 to 3.25 isn't that much of an improvement, so wait until one with a significant advance becomes avaliable before you complicate things.

That's going to take too long, just download the 3.25b upgrade file and follow the instructions inside.
