No problem happy to have been of service=) is the connection still bad? you know it could be your modem frequently flopping! anyway hoping you fix the problem.
It could be your router. Older devices can't keep up with the ever-increasing downlink speeds and sometimes crash. Netgear seems to be especially bad, but seeing as your machine is 5 years old and back then 2 Mbps was hot stuff I wouldn't be surprised if it's the router. You can *try* checking the lease time your ISP assigns to your router for your IP address (I'm assuming you have dynamic addressing (DHCP); if static, or are using BOOTP contact your ISP.) If it's 24 hours then it sounds like your router (or your ISP) is not accepting lease renewals. If that's the case then contact them and ask them why.
if you open internet exploerer click on tools, select internet options, click on the connections tab, then select your connection, as in the one you use to connect to the net, you will find it under Dial Up and Virtual private network settings, slect your connection then click on your settings, then click on advanced, uncheck the box that says "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" and uncheck the box saying "disconnect if idle for". depending on your settings now i dont kno if this will work!
thanks for everybodys help! i think its just my router and that its just gone too old. it isnt becuase the connection is idle becuase when im using the internet aswell it disconnects
